Should I raise my case?

Go to solution Solved by W-L,

What do you mean "on the inside"? I already installed it on the inside of the case on the bottom but haven't connected it to the PSU yet (no dust filter).

Ah, ok was going on the intention it was mounted on the exterior for space saving reasons. That aside putting a filter on the bottom shouldn't be a problem as long as there is enough room between the shelf and the filter, from the looks of things I guess it wouldn't hurt to add a thicker piece of rubber for the feet to raise it a little.

Hey!

I have a Corsair Graphite 230T and just got a fan to mount on the bottom of the case (my PSU is also intake fan facing down and I want to install a dust filter under the case, the square ones like from Silverstone). http://www.vortez.net/index.php?ct=articles&action=file&id=23941

The distance between the case and the surface it stands on isn't that big and worries me a bit.

Should I try to elevate the case a bit (like with additional rubber feet) or is there no need for it?

If you think I should try to raise it a bit, how much and what would you suggest I use to do so?

Thanks in advance!

1.5mm thickness... I think it should be fine without further elevation.

I wouldn't worry too much but if you'd want more air flow it wouldn't hurt to give it about a centimetre from the surface for the fan to intake, that or you could place the fan on the inside of the case.

No, it sits on a "shelf" on the side of my desk.

Wait, WHAT? Do you have the psu facing down without a dust filter? That psu must be full of dust inside. You have two options to not kill your psu, install a dust filter soon or turn it face up but before clean it up.

Oh, nonono, of course the PSU has a dust filter (came with the case). Unfortunately the mounting place for the fan doesn't have one.

You can see here what I mean -> http://www.vortez.net/index.php?ct=articles&action=file&id=23941
