AMD 7900 XTX 2 major Monitor issues

FirstTimeAMD
 Share

Hi,

I'm fortunate enough to call an AMD RX 7900 XTX Red Devil OC my own.
It's my first time using an "Only" AMD setup, and I've got tons of issues with it...

Information:

I'm using Windows 11 Professional (64 bit) 22H2
Current Version of AMD Adrenalin Edition: 23.1.1
Current Version of my AMD RX 7900 XTX: 22.40.00.62-230106a-387257C-AMD-Software-Adrenalin-Edition

AMD Windows Driver Version: 31.0.14000.62003

AMD RX 7900 XTX BIOS-Version: 022.001.002.009

First issue:

I've got a 2K 240Hz Monitor from iiyama (GB2790QSU Gold Phoenix) which has a Display Port 1.4 and HDMI Port 2.0.
Connecting my AMD RX 7900 XTX with the Montior via Display Port Cable 2.0 works, but I can "only" reach 144Hz instead of 240Hz on 2K resolution. Changing the Resolution to FULL-HD (1920x1080) will allow me to use 240Hz. Changing to 1920x1200 Will allow me to use only 60Hz. I'm confused.
I've contaced the Monitor Manufacturer for Support. They asked me about information and wrote: "Please check the edit data with the link below, if the max. or other resolution is displayed, it is a computer problem."
The Link below: https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/monitor_info_view.html
See Attachment "info_result.png" to see the results of the Application.

Second issue:

I've got a pretty old second Monitor which only has a HDMI 1.2 Port and VGA-Port.
I connected it with my AMD RX 7900 XTX via HDMI 2.1 Cable. After Connecting, my main Monitor (iiyama 2K) started flickering really bad and the 2nd Monitor wasn't even Recognized and the Screen was black.
After Disconnecting the 2nd Monitor, I discovered that my Main Monitor (iiyama 2K) Settings changed to 64Hz and my System didn't recognize the AMD RX 7900 XTX anymore... it was running on internal graphics until I used Device Manager and uninstalled the AMD RX 7900 XTX from it... I restartet my PC with only my Main Monitor connected to it. After restart it showed my AMD RX 7900 XTX and worked normally.
I'm afraid to connect the second monitor a second time, as I might have even bigger problems next time.

I would appreciate any kind of help regarding my issues.

I am pretty sure I've interacted in a topic with someone who had that same monitor and roughly the same issues as you, maybe a few weeks ago.

I think we weren't able to solve it.

Have you tried changing Display Screen Compression? tried disabling MultiPlane Overlay?

Google.

Google.

Adrenalin does not check the firmware/bios. Check on the webpage of the GPU.

Actually, yes they do: https://www.amd.com/de/support/graphics/amd-radeon-rx-7000-series/amd-radeon-rx-7900-series/amd-radeon-rx-7900xtx
Updating drivers are "only possible" via "AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 23.1.1 for Radeon RX 7900 Series".

That's the answer most of the time. But I would have found a brief explanation of these terms helpful, before googling these things and ending up reading about it on Wikipedia -.-

disabling MultiPlane Overlay =>> I guess, that it's something I need to change in my regedit. It "might" help, but which "functionality" does it Limit? (Reddit mentioned limited funcionality) I've found an article on Reddit, but it refers to 6000 Series AMD GPU's. I don't know if I need to set another Value for the 7000 Series GPU's.

Have you tried changing Display Screen Compression? =>> Googling mostly explains what it is and it shows how to do it on a DELL Devices via Regedit. So still don't know if it's something general for every GPU or different for every manufacturer etc.

Guess I will wait for the next AMD updates to arrive and hope for the best.

You should know which graphics card you have! You have stated it as being a Red Devil OC, that means it was made by Powercolor and guess where the webpage of that card is - AT POWERCOLOR.

https://www.powercolor.com/product?id=1669258891

Since I had to Google it for you, I found the download page for you too https://www.powercolor.com/downloads

And there isn't a newer vBios available for that card, but there are other tools.

Sorry for being a newbie...

According to PowerColor, the BIOS Update is made via AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition.

How did I come to this decision? Well, you can ONLY download the already "obsolete" AMD Software Adrenalin Edition 22.12.1, but 23.1.1 already exist via official AMD site.
PowerColorhttps://www.powercolor.com/download?type=1492658578&id=1671001076  I'm not sure, if they would list BIOS-Updates etc. as "extra" downloadable Files or if they ONLY use
AMD Software Adrenalin Edition for updating it. I suspect secondly, but I can be wrong (remember, I'm a newbie).

Thanks for your suggestions, and help.
