Upgrading from a gtx 1070, which card should i get?

Smestn

I have an i9 9900k with 32gb of 3200mhz ram for context. 750w powersupply as well. Will dip my toes into 4k gaming. Which card is a decent upgrade?

A used 3070 will fit within you power budget and you can have used mining GPU for killer deals on EBay.

Be mindfull of the card size and case ventilation.

Around 600usd maximum, i bought my 1070 for around 469USD, so i am looking around that range though. Upper midrange card would be nice.

You can get a 6800 or 6800XT for that price. A 3070 or 3070ti may be doable but will be weaker in games that don't support RTX/DLSS

Not much around the 600 mark. 3080s and 6800 XTs seem to be OOS. But, for around 500 you can get:

RTX 3070 for $500: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/VCQcCJ/pny-geforce-rtx-3070-lhr-8-gb-xlr8-gaming-revel-epic-x-rgb-video-card-vcg30708ltfxppb

RX 6800 for $490: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/P36qqs/asrock-radeon-rx-6800-16-gb-phantom-gaming-d-oc-video-card-rx6800-pgd-16go

For used, $600 is definitely 3080/6800XT territory, and maybe you can find a good deal on a 3080 Ti.

4K? Don't cap yourself with 8GB 3070, get at least a 12GB 3080 or RX 6800 XT

Yeahm, for 1440p  RTX 3070 is good.

For $600 the best option would be as previously stated used RTX 3080 or RX 6800 XT.

But what monitor you have? 4K 60Hz?

I edit my posts more often than not

I currently have 1440p 165hz, but i am looking to upgrade to something more, the odyssey g9 or 4k 120hz or similar is my long term plan. However maxing out the 1440p screen on maximum settings is my current priority. Would be nice to be able to play newer games for a while.

I have heard that people are skipping 40-series cards, but would waiting for a 7800xt/7700xt/4070 make any sense?

i want to take my next upgrade seriously and not bottleneck my ram/raw performance.

I agree that 8gb 3070 might be a bit too little, as the 1070 also has 8gb. I like to do 120% rendering in games and render a bit above my current resolution to make things sharper, especially in battlefront 2 or AC.

Any thoughts and opinions on anything i said would be appreciated. I like taking my upgrades seriously and not spend too much or too little. Thanks for all of the replies guys. ☺️

I'm in a similar boat.

6800/xt seems a bit old now (2 year old cards) while also still being very expensive.

7800xt yet to even materialise in many rumours despite being 2 months on from the 7900 lineup launch.

And when it does, it could present such a poor value/performance that I may as well have bought a 6800 card anyway...

On another forum I have seen people saying AMD might not even release the 7800 lineup until 6800xt stock is fully wound down, in order to keep prices high. I don't know if that's realistic but it would be very bad for us if it is true.
