Hi, I currently have a problem which I think I know the answer to but want to ask the people. If I use a SATA cable from a completely different PSU to my current PSU will it not work? As in will it cause my PC to not turn on? Thanks in advance!

Depends on if the pin out is the same, if it isn't, there's a very real possibility that you either fry your component that it is being plugged into, or the PSU detects a short and doesn't turn on.

Pin out? Is that like Corsair type 3 and 4? Not very knowledgeable on this type of stuff. Thanks though

if you're not absolutely 100% certain that they're compatible cables, DONT USE THEM.

the 3x2 mini-fit style connectors exist in at least 3 different pinouts, which WILL cause damage if you mix them with incompatible power supplies.

The wires from the PSU thru the cable to the connector at the drive end can be difference from PSU manufacturer to manufacturer, because the PSU connector can have a different layout.

Is this what caused the issues in the other thread?

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

I will find your mentions of Ikea or Gnome and I will /s post.

is your problem a shortage of SATA power connectors?

if so.. buy a splitter.

Well I do need to buy another SATA cable now but with Corsair they have different types and I am not sure what mine is or the difference. I have search for the answer but they’re never as simple as yes or no. If you know I would kindly like to know. I am using a Corsair RM850e

according to cablemod's compatibility checker those are "C series" corsair cables.

That seems to be “cablemod” own classification of cables which means only their cables fit C-class

that's because they did the work to group compatible power supplies together, there is no standard, so they made one.
