@bbqsauce Doesn't RAPID and TurboWrite reduce the already-short endurance of the 840 EVO? I mean, the EVO is already really fast...why push it further and harm it?

 

Samsung should probably have put those technologies on its 840 Pro instead.

I don't think rapid does anything to the drive. it's using your system ram as a 'cache'

rapid doesnt but turbo write does as it uses a certain amount of space of TLC flash as SLC so writes under that amount will wear it 3x as quickly potentially.

The evo without turbo write would just be a 840 with a slightly better controller. RAPID is also available on 840 Pro drives. The reason turbo write isnt on the 840 pro is that it would create inconsistent performance which is not something you want on a enthusiast drive.

PRO already has crazy write speeds even for 128GB, so why would they waste space for turbowrite ?

well it would loose less space than the evo because of MLC vs TLC

which is why is doesnt use it also to keep consistent performance. Im still glad that they brough RAPID to the pro.

yes but they werent as easy to use nor integrated so directly with the drive. Also of the ones I have used in the past none seemed to do as good of a job. Theres also the thing with how they set it up where almost anyone who buys their SSD can easily use that feature with minimal effort on their part.
