Ethernet speed fix

Heyo, I recently ran a ethernet cable (cat6), but I am only getting around 30mbps download with a ~4.5mbps upload, if what I'm reading on the router's ethernet statistics its rated for 1gig, is there a solution for this, or?

Your router may be capable of 1Gbit, but if your Internet speed is only 30Mbps, then that's all you'll get. Are you trying to move files locally within your network or are you downloading from the Internet?

That's going through the Internet. Is the plan you have with your ISP supposed to give you more than that?

 

Also, if you're in EST, it's peak hours right now, so it's not uncommon for your speeds to dip somewhat until peak hours end (usually around 10pm) because there's so much network traffic. So if you're supposed to get 50-75Mbps, you might only be getting 30Mbps at the moment if a lot of people in your neighborhood are watching Netflix or something.

@YoungBladeIs absolutely right with what they have said. Just because your router is rated for 1G doesn't mean that's what you're going to get. You'll get whatever you pay for through your ISP. So depending on what you pay for that's what you will get, if you want to know for sure that you have a problem or not we'll need to know what speeds you pay your ISP for.
