i'm thinking about buying this on Amazon:

https://www.amazon.ca/Arctic-ACFAN00138A-Value-Pack-Pressure-optimised/dp/B07HCKWF2X

The description shows 0.3 sone as the noise level. After using online conversion, 0.3 sones is only about 11 db, which is WAYYYYY more quiet than almost all fans. Even for Noctua 140mm fans, the noise level is about 20db on average. Is the 0.3 sones a typo, or am I misunderstanding the description as a non-tech-savvy person?

thanks.

i messaged the seller, and the seller did not confirm or deny the noise level. He just said it's whatever the manufacturer put on their website.

so ya, fishy, nobody is willing to stand behind the noise level.

11db, i don't know any case fan has that low level of noise.

Looks like the seller is the manufacturer (Arctic) and they are reputable. So I don't think they lie. The part they don't show is under what conditions it is 0.3 sone or under what standard (ANSI, DIN etc.). i don't know, but could be measured in 10cm, or 1m distance and you would get different values from the same fan.

The seller you talked to is just a CS rep, and they just can go by what the spec sheet says. I'm sure Arctic either tested it, or had it tested by a lab.

You are right to originally question it, i first though you had looked at some re-labeled fan from a noname manufacturer and the seller called " Joe the Fan guy with amazon store" put his name on it. but this seems to be legit.

If you really want to know how they compare to the competition, the above link to GN or similar reputable testers is the only way to know for sure. but really, for a normal person, relying on a very serious manufacturer data is fine enough.

None of them possesses black magic. Many very large fans running slow will be inherently quieter than fewer small fans at a given airflow. so your case is the first design choice for low noise.

ya there's so many factors when testing and 99% of people cant afford to proply test them. and each test people do is different. your sound floor for your room is like 40db so to get it lower then that cost alot of moeny. gn i think said there quiet cube thing can do about i think 13db or something. and artic fans do make sound at serten rpms its almost seems like there defective. but there best proformace at the price so... i have many artic fans...

@Error 504Here you go (Arctic P14 have a secondary noise issue, but in general, they are one of the best fans on the market, seemingly topping charts at noise normalized performance for all use cases). The secondary problems that don't get detected in tests like these, happen at lower speeds at around ~750-~1050RPM [for 140mm version], and a speed that would fall somewhere in between the 30-35dBA charts below is a safe speed for no resonating noise.

We still need GamersNexus(they should be fully proficient)/VSG/HardwareBusters(once they get more proficient), for the most accurate testing, but these quasarzone are quite good either way:
