Is Hyper 212 Evo enough?

Go to solution Solved by svmlegacy,

It is enough for general usage, but it likely will thermal throttle under full boost situations (Which is fine...)

You can always get this now and upgrade later if you feel the need to.

Building my first system so probably a dumb question.

I have an i7 12700k, and bought a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo. Is this enough cooling for my CPU? I also recently discovered the FrostFlow Aio from ID-Cooling, for around the same price as the air cooler I bought. ($60 USD) Will thermal throttling be an issue, and need I purchase the Aio for better cooling. Any advice or suggestions?

On a pretty tight budget, so my max to spend on CPU cooler is about $70 USD.

Planning to run Microsoft Flight Sim 2020 with 3060 ti if that matters.

Thanks.

As an FYI, the Hyper 212 is an amazing cooler if you get it on sale for like $15-20 https://slickdeals.net/f/15506881-cooler-master-hyper-212-black-edition-cpu-cooler-heatsink-fan-lga1151-am4-18-ar-amazon-com

There is absolutely no reason to pay $60 for it. At this point it's living off of hype from 2007.
On this list it's ranked as a Tier 6 cooler. Not awful. Not good. There's better stuff at lower prices.

At $60ish you're into this

5900XT (16C/32T) | 64 GB DDR4 RAM | RTX 5070

1.5TB Optane P4800X | 16TB nvme SSD NAS w/ 10Gbe & 96GB DDR5 RAM caching
LG C4 + QN90A | Sony AZ7000ES | Polk R200+R100, ELAC OW4.2, SVS PB12-NSD + 3x SB1000 | HD800

You don't NEED an AIO.

Either a better performing air cooler or better.

Said $60 for budget because I knew I couldn't get an AIO for the price that I got the hyper 212 Evo. I ended up getting it for about $37 and adding shipping ended up being a little bit more like forty-five. with the budget I had left I would be willing to go up to 60 for an AIO.

Great suggestions, still under return period for Hyper 212, so might seriously consider some.

Thanks for all the help.

I would return the 212 if I were you, it truly is a piece of junk. The PA120 is light years ahead of it in performance. Those 2x extra heat pipes that PA120 has over the 212 will come in handy with your cpu.
