So currently got a system with a gtx 1660 and a amd fx 8120 what would be a better cpu option?

What's your budget? If you are upgrading the CPU you will also need to include a new motherboard and new RAM. The good news is anything modern would be a big upgrade from a FX 8120.

ok i would def go with amd as they have a better price to performance than intel   as far as i can tell
