Hello all!

I have a question about upgrading (adding RAM) to my PC.

My current rig:

Asus X570 TUF gaming plus

Ryzen 9 3900X

T-Force Xtreem 32GB (2x16 kit) @3600 Mhz

RTX 2070 super

Samsung 980 pro

Everything works fine, but since I'm currently working on some heavy 3D renderings, 32GB RAM gets used up to 95-100%.

The RAM that is currently installed is slotted into A2 and B2 slots on the MBO. If i switch them to A1 and B1 slots, enabling D.O.C.P. crashes the PC. According to the MBO manual, this is the only way to utilize dual-channel memory.

Now, the question is: If I buy additional RAM (mind you, exactly the same kit) will it work if I stick it to A1 and B1 slots? Ofcourse, with D.O.C.P. enabled.

Thanks!

Turn that off, see if the crashing stops. Also bear in mind your RAM speed will be lowered with 4 sticks

Currently I don't have 4 sticks. I only 6one pair. I'm considering buy additional two.

Regarding your answer, if I use 4 sticks D.O.C.P. must remain "off"? And 4 sticks will work only at 2400Mhz?

Yes, You can fill all the slots and D.O.C.P. Should still work but that really depends on the memory if it can handle it or not.

So you're saying that I can use all 4 slots with two times 2x16GB (64GB) kits and turn on D.O.C.P. and it will work?

Leave DOCP off until you determine the system works right to begin with. SOme, but not all, systems when running with 4 sticks, may downclock them for compatibility reasons, unsure if your setup will do that or not, just something to be aware of

Like I said in my original post:

MBO manual says that for D.O.C.P. and dual channel support I MUST use slots A2 and B2.

I tried using slots A1 and B1 with only two sticks I currently have, and the system crasheshes if I turn on D.O.C.P.

To summarize:

Scenario 1 - TESTED

A1 - 16GB

A2 - empty

B1 - 16GB

B2 - empty

D.O.C.P. on - system crashes

D.O.C.P. off - system fine

Scenario 2 - TESTED

A1 - empty

A2 - 16GB

B1 - empty

B2 - 16GB

D.O.C.P. on - system fine

D.O.C.P. off - system fine

Scenario 3 - MY PROBLEM (unable to test)

A1 - 16GB

A2 - 16GB

B1 - 16GB

B2 - 16Gb

D.O.C.P. on - system ???????

D.O.C.P. off - system fine

ehh, it should work... your testing with just one kit wasn't really necessary though...

the thing is with 4 sticks, it might or might not work, there's no guarantee whatsoever, if you look at it closely it always says "up to" at no point the board manufacturer guarantees you a certain speed above jdec... ram manufacturers might,  but they probably also wouldn't have an issue proving that the ram indeed run at this speed, with the right board and settings...

tldr, you just have to try it i guess.

The direction tells you... the direction
