Buying a New Laser Color Printer only vs Keeping old unsupported Driver HP Color LaserJet 1600?

So here I took the printer from our office that the people don't use it anymore because of unsupported driver for the printer.

https://support.hp.com/id-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-color-laserjet-1600-printer/1140734

But when it come to Linux it supported.

https://www.openprinting.org/printer/HP/HP-Color_LaserJet_1600

But I don't know which Linux version is it.

The printer Toner cartridge left black color, I need to purchase the other color in order for me to be able to use it.

Should I buy the new cartridge and install Linux to use old pc as server for printing ?

or should I just buy a new color laser printer only?

and what is your color laser printer only suggestion for 2023?

Add:

Why Laser?

- for official document

Why Color?

- some official document require color

thanks

If looking to buy a new printer, inkjet is the way to go, much more efficient, less expensive to run, good prints, and continued support. Personally, I've had a number of Brother printers, and apart from expensive ink and a premium upfront for the name, they've all been amazing and lasted many years. That said, I just got an Epson expression XP-4205 and love it so far. Inexpensive ink, direct feed paper supply so paper jams happen less (in my experience), and the print speed and quality is pretty good as well, and it's reasonably priced.

Any printer that supports IPP (which I think that one does, but you may want to double check) basically has the drivers running inside the printer, so you don't have to worry about driver compatibility.

Also, there's likely a secret menu to enable printing in black, when it's out of color toner.  If you can enable that, it might be worth just using it as a monochrome printer.  That's where laserjet printers really shine, with much better looking and cheaper prints than inkjet printers, and no problems with clogged nozzles or dried up cartridges, when you don't print regularly.

Well, my office some of it have switch to https://www.epson.co.id/For-Home/Printers/Ink-Tank/Ink-Tank-System-Printers/Epson-EcoTank-L6270-A4-Wi-Fi-Duplex-All-in-One-Ink-Tank-Printer-with-ADF/p/C11CJ61501

I know the financial benefit of inject tank printer, but some document require color laser, so that is the reason why, I specifically chose color laser printer, but only printer, no MFP.

Love the ecotank choice my dude.

Like before, I'd suggest looking at a Brother brand, I've had great reliability with them, they cost a little bit more, but they're built like tanks.
