linuxmint problems

i have a pretty old computer lying around so i thought why not install LinuxMint  and make it a separate station for browsing but the problem is its lagging like theres no tommorow any recomendations?.The PC has Intel Celeron 1.7Ghz 1 core 2x256MB memory modules and an FX5500 graphics card(when i say its old i mean its REALLY OLD).

That's your PC not being strong enough to drive the OS. Had something similar on a netbook.

 

Are you using x86 or x64?

 

What GUI are you using?

Maybe it's too hard on the laptop. Maybe try another GUI like LXDE.

Unless you specify on what GUI you're using it's impossible for us to help you.

Try another desktop enviroment

Try XFCE. I use Xubuntu like all the time for just this reason.

That's irrelevant to the conversation, did you try lighter version of mint with face or something, cinnamon may be too demanding
