Graphics card upgrade question?

I built a PC about 3 years ago. I have a Ryzen 3600 CPU with a MSI 1660ti. I have 48gb of ddr4 ram. My monitor is an Acer 1080p 75hz display. I am finding that when I try to max out some games I don't have enough VRAM. I am debating whether I should upgrade my GPU to a 3060 12gb or the 3070ti 8gb. I don't game online at all and I play a lot of open world games. Some titles are red dead redemption 2 and Wildlands. Also I like playing the far cry series. What card is ideal for me if I plan on playing 1440p eventually. I have no plans on 4k gaming.

Depends where you live, and your budget.

I wouldn't get a 3060. Do you want to stay with Nvidia? AMD cards typically have more VRAM, and you might be able to find a great deal on something like the 6700XT.

I live in Toronto Canada. I have no problems switching to AMD. Will it require a different motherboard or anything?

No, it will just require uninstalling the old (Nvidia) drivers, perhaps using Display Driver Uninstaller DDU to clean the remains.

 

For 1440p I'd recommend at least a Radeon 6800, wouldn't go below the 6750XT. Those cards are in the 3070ti to 3080 range.

Nope, just the card. The 6700XT is pretty reasonable, and if you're not against used cards, then deals can definitely be found.

Eh, I wouldn't. It's not really worth the 50% price increase. 6700XT is perfectly capable at 1440p.

So is a 5700XT and a 6700, even a 6600XT or 6650XT, going that route a 6600 would also do...

Gamed on most of them at 1440p. Cyberpunk and such are hard to get 60+ with high details on those. Imagine in 2 years?

You're not making much sense.

The 6700XT is a huge improvement over the 5700XT and 6600XT, and destroys the non XT models.

The 6600XT is almost the same price as the 6700XT. So. Makes no sense to purchase.

The 6800 nets you smaller gains than the other cards (over the 6700XT) at a 50% price increase. Simply not worth it. You're far better off saving the money, and upgrading the card in 2 years (if you actually think it's going to be that much of a difference).

 

Cyberpunk is an incredibly demanding title. Not all titles require that kind of horsepower.

Huge in the 15-20% average range? To me, that's not a huge upgrade.

The 6800 outperforms the 5700XT, the 6650XT and 6700 non-XT by 30-40%.

Ok, that might be ~15-25% over the 6700XT but those cards aren't priced a lot higher than the 6750XT.

The 6800, at this time, in most markets, features the best performance per dollar, meaning you get the most for your money.

If you're going to make suggestions, check what the market is like where the person is buying.

Ok, you're right, a 6700 XT $550, 6800 $800. 6750 XT - $620-800.

 

So, a 6750XT should be skipped. A 6700XT for $550 is a steal for todays prices.

I just wanted to thank everyone. It's nice to be able to get some advice from fellow PC builders. I found used 6800xt(s) used for between $550 and $600 Canadian (rubles). They are still under warranty according to the sellers. Is this a decent buy?
