Anyone know if any youtube channel etc has done a deep dive on Steam Deck durability? In your experience how durable has it been? I got one for Christmas and 6 days later accidentally dropped it, and now several buttons don't work. I had thought the case (one that came with it) was closed but was actually open and when I grabbed it by the handle the Deck fell 2 feet onto hardwood floor. I am a bit surprised it did that much damage, my Switch lite seems way more durable (though I realize it is meant to be used by kids). Steam Support said they would fix the L1 and R1 buttons as a gesture, but other buttons and repairs if needed were quoted as costing hundreds.

yeah its a user error so you have to pay to repair it you can change it yourself bcz all of it is pretty modular if it cost 100 you did some serious  damage.

Just from original reviews, I would treat is as camera. Drop it from anything beyond 30cm to something hard, with some pointy thing sticking out and you will get damage.

As for testing, unless something is claimed as sturdy or has IP rating, I see no point of doing testing. It would give pros to devices which have some additional strength. But any such review wouldn't help in real life. It wouldn't make warranty cover user errors anymore than it does without reviews.

There's an item that you can 3D print, that clips to your deck, and attaches to the Nylon tab that you use to remove it from the case. I think it's called a 'Deck Saver'.

If you had had one of those, your deck wouldn't have fallen out of the case, and wouldn't be damaged right now.

Also, if you're replacing the thumbsticks, get the Gulikit replacement Hall Effect sticks. Seriously, it's a huge upgrade.
