Can a monitor be powered from the psu using usb-c pd?

Androkistis

I'm looking a getting a used LG 22M38D-B 21..5 which comes with an external power brick. I've seen usb-c to barrel adapters and also watched the LTT video on powering "anything" with ubs-c.

Can the power from a psu be converted to usb-c pd at a high enough wattage to power a monitor? My reasoning is to create a "portable" monitor which can be powered off of my "portable" pc.

Your motherboard USB-C ports will probably not be able to provide enough power.

However, you could definitely DIY a Molex to USB-C power adapter - I've done that with USB-B and barrel connectors a few times to power displays and adapters.

Why not just get a USB powered monitor?

I think you can technically with Asus boards they have 65W PD on usb C only the higher end ones. and i think youre just better of with buying an power cable for your monitor or somethink like Portable power bank or even a portable monitor (their is 500 of those)  they come with usb C PD. But how you are going to power the Pc anyways ? . Btw this is a thing in old office Pcs but not USB C of course its just anoher Powerplug

Probably should have mentioned that the pc is an old parts build so I'm wanting to do like what MelOn said, molex to usb-c just not sure how.

Monitor lists 18-25w 19v 1.2a

I know I could buy a usb-c powered monitor, but that would cost over $100 for a decent one. The one I'm looking at is used and cheap.

The PC will be powered normally, this is just to eliminate the long power cable to a plug. I'm working to make this thing easy to move around by eliminating or shortening all cables it needs. The computer is being built into a custom case to make it easier to move.

Kinda makes no sense, you'd have to convert 12V from PSU to 19V, implement a USB-C source (not trivial), only to then convert it from USB-C back to barrel at the other end.

Forget all the USB-C, get a step up converter that makes 19V from 12 and feed that directly.
