Hello all,

I recently bought brand new Mac for the first time new and it set me back like $2800. I am using as I finish up the last year and a half of college so it will defiantly be moved around a lot and I am trying to decide whether the apple care plus for $150 is worth it.

On one hand I already spend a lot on the laptop so I want it to last if something happens, but on the other hand, I have never broken any of the other laptops I have used both in high school or college, asus gaming laptop and Lenovo thinkpad p1.

Do y’all have any experience with apple care plus good or bad, and are there other inusurances that work do same thing for cheaper? I am really just looking for recommendations on what I should do.

I have one day left to purchase the apple care plus but just can’t decide.

thanks!

My suggestion is to get it for no other reason than the phone support.  The phone support is comprehensive.  They help with apple software issues as well - connecting your apple to third party peripherals - its the best I've used.

I've tended to get it with everything including my Apple TV.  So, I'm a satisfied customer you might say.  It gives me peace of mind.

Would you pay for any other Laptop-insurance for another brand? If not, then don't get Apple Care. (it's funny, how "Device-insurance" is never a topic for non-Apple Products..)

Do you break your devices often? If not, then don't get Apple Care.

i basicly never break anything, so for me personally, Apple Care+ is a pure waste of money.

Even if that one unlucky thing happens for 1 device, it's cheaper to repair/replace it once, than to pay Apple Care+ for every single Apple Device i currently own and will own in the future.
Several Apple Care+ do add up, and it's only 3 years for Macs.

Example: I bought my 2nd gen iPad Pro 10.5" ba ck in early 2018. If i got Apple Care+, and it broke now, it wouldn't do anything for me.

If you do feel better with Apple Care, go for it. 150 dollar isn't that much considering you did spend 2800 Dollar on it.

Here in Germany, it's 299€ (including Tax) for the 14" MBP, and 399€ for the 16" MBP, i would never pay that honestly. But 150 Dollar... Could be considered if you feel better with the safety net.

There are two main questions regarding AppleCare+ (and extended warranties in general, really): is it mobile, and would the blow of a full-price repair be too steep?

The general rule: if a product is designed to be carried around, AppleCare+ makes more sense. I wouldn't get an extended warranty for a Mac mini that will just sit on my desk; I might if I have a laptop that could slip to the ground. This doesn't mean you absolutely have to pay up, but do think about where you'll be taking your laptop and how you use it.

As for expenses: an out-of-warranty repair can easily cost several hundred dollars. If you think you could shoulder that "maybe" cost, you might save money if there are no problems after the first year. But if you turn pale at the thought of paying that kind of money to get a mainboard or display fixed, buy AppleCare+ and set your mind at ease.
