I heard a few years ago that updating your BIOS is dangerous and thus I never did it on my old setup with a Z390 from MSI.

It can be if you live in a area where power outages are common, so a UPS would be a good idea to own as you don't want to lose power while flashing the BIOS. Some high end motherboards do have a dual BIOS chip in case one BIOS flash fails and becomes corrupted, just simply switch BIOSs switch and you can at least not have a brick on your hands, unless you have a ch431a BIOS programmer tool.

Now my new MB has a dedicated BIOS Flashback USB port and apparently a "update BIOS via Internet (ASUS EZ Flashback 3) option. Is it safe to update my BIOS and if so should I do it via USB stick or via Internet?

I'd prefer using the USB thumb drive over the Internet as you don't know which version you are installing via Internet.

Which are only 5$

Although if you dont have an spi header or spi header but unknown pinout then its still a pain to fix a failed bios flash cause those stupid test clips arent exactly reliable, gonna try fixing mine and see if it can actually work or its just a useless pos

Never had a shortage in my 23 years of being on this crap planet but that doesnt say anything. Besides the fact that you arent sure which version to install via internet ( a video I looked up showed the version) is there any other reason for USB? I only have my holy USB stick left which I use for new windows install (holy because it survived 2 hours of my washing mashine without a cap on) and I will not use this stick for anything than windows.

I never said I'm not sure which version the via Internet option would install. I'm saying YOU are. Looking at videos done online, it appears that the BIOS EZ Flash 3 (how you update via Internet) does tell you which version you are wishing to flash. Overall looks painless, but I've preferred via USB.

To each their own.

You can give it a try and see how difficult updating via the Internet option is. I've never done it as I couldn't follow the manual that well/grasp what was being said.
