Hello. I just upgraded my pc to a new motherboard (ASrock b660), cpu (15 13600k), ram (32gb) and cooling (nh u12a). When I god it up and running, and started to download the basics, I saw on HWmonitor that i was hitting temps of 60 degrees celsius. I tried running the free demo of 3dmark from steam, and when benchmarking the CPU, it got to 90 degrees celsius (it also hit 188W). I am now wondering if I should return my nh u12a and get an AIO. Do you have any recommendations for a good, but not too expensive (around 200 usd), AIO?

Did you remember to add thermal paste? I would also check the mount.

yes. I have already taken off the cooler once, because I had to do a bios flash

So when you did that, did you fully remove the old thermal paste from the heatsink, and apply new thermal paste?

yes I used isopropanol to get the old off, and then I put the same amount on again (I could see that the paste was covering the CPU when I took it off)

When you did the BIOS flash, I'm assuming you were upgrading to the 13600K from another CPU.

That's fine.

I did not know that I needed to flash the bios, so I first put everything together (the new stuf), and tried to boot the PC, but I only got a "DRAM" error on the motherboard. Then I took everything apart (all cables, cpu, cooler, gpu), and flashed the bios. I made sure to clean the cpu and cooler before putting on new thermal paste.

In the future, you can leave everything installed if you have to do a BIOS flash again.

Is the hardware fully tightened down?

isn't 90 degrees celsuis a bit hot? Wont it hurt the cpu in the long run?

Technically the CPU is fine, but it's not _ideal_ to have it at that temperature.

What are your ambient temperatures?

my ambient are between 30-40 degrees celsius. I am testing premiere pro right now, and after applying some effects to my video, it goes to 100 degrees and dosnt go down before I stop playing the video

That's very high ambient temps.

You could try reseating the cooler and making sure that it's fully and evenly tightened.

Is it still hitting 188w when testing premiere pro?

Hmm ok I can try to reseat the cooler. But I did some research and found some others having the same kind of problem, and they said that underclocking the cpu worked for them. I have never touched under/overclocking before, but I tried to set the max W of the cpu to 120 at spikes and this seems to have an effect. But I am just now watching JayzTwoCents underclocking by choosing a voltage offset (video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4jjopjkJzxA). Do you know if it is better to choose a max voltage or a max W?

Stupid question:

Is the heatsink fan plugged in? Do you have adequate intake/exhaust on the chassis?

Based on older reviews of the cooler looking at outright heat load, even with your elevated ambient temperatures, it seems the cooler should be doing better than it is.

Lowering power draw will obviously have an effect because you're lowering the heat load but I imagine your clock speeds will also be reduced, so you'll have reduced performance.

yea the fans on the heatsink are plugged in and spinning (using a Y splitter). I have two intake fans and one exhaust.

I saw a post from someone saying that they used a dh15 (and the same cpu as me) and still got 90-100 degrees before undervolting...

Do you know if I should be lowering the max W the cpu is allowed to draw, or the vcore voltage? I have the Asrock b660 motherboard, so I dont even know if I can change the vcore voltage...

Which specific motherboard do you have? Typing in 'Asrock B660' gives me multiple results.

What's the system being used for? If it's not throttling during normal usage, there's no need to change anything.

It will be used for gaming/editing. The reason i upgraded (from the 8600k) was to get better multi core performance

Reviewing the manual, you should be able to adjust various voltage settings, including the core voltage.

yea I just turned off the W limit, and adjusted the cpu core voltage to 1.250. After trying some premiere pro this time, it maxes out at around 80 degrees

Were you monitoring clock speeds at all previously? Do you know what your clock speeds are now during Premiere Pro?

Yes I was monitoring them before, and it dosnt seem to make a big difference. Now (at idle) the p-cores are 5,1ghz and e-cores 3,9ghz (using both hwmonitor and cpu-z)

Edit: forgot to say, but they where around 5ghz and 3ghz before undervoltage

What are they under load? Same?
