Building a ryzen 7700x on a b650 msi tomahawk with a rtx 3070, and a 2x16gb 6000mhz corsair vengeance kit.  I will boot and get into the bios the xmp profile will automatically set.  On rebooting the system hangs on the ram.  I have tried setting the ram to both 5200mhz and 4800mhz(the speed it is at on the success boot)  and it still hangs.  I have left it for over 15min to see if it is memory training.  Still no luck.  Any suggestions?

Are you able to get into BIOS and update the BIOS?? If there's stuttering going on there, then I wouldn't risk it.

Did you get ram on that QVL list? Generally that will be the issue as XMP is intel and EXPO is AMD and they are usually not interchangeable. XMP profiles tend to work great on intel, but dont work well on AMD, this has been a gamble on whether or not it actually works. Some people get it to work no problem, most dont.

They are slightly different, getting the best ram for the board based on the QVL list is best. https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/MAG-B650-TOMAHAWK-WIFI/support#mem If you find if you buy ram here and it still doesnt work, you may need to RMA the board and then its a headache.

Here's what to do with memory training - Set XMP Ram speed ONLY to what the CPU supports. Set NB (north bridge) and all the Ram timings to AUTO, make sure they are all Auto, they may not default as such. Then save & restart. Let if find its own CAS/CL and ignore whatever it finds, may or may not be the timings printed on the ram stick, it will not slow down your performance, if the XMP speed is set.

Basically what others have said, what I found is that RAM is can be a make or break for your system.

Before getting RAM, for example from Corsair, they will list out what chipset the RAM would support, and they would guarantee it will work on that chipset.

If it’s RAM with XMP then it’s guaranteed to work on Intel but not guaranteed to work on AMD or even work as expected, that’s the gamble.

Another thing you can also do is check your motherboard compatibility with the RAM here: https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/MAG-B650-TOMAHAWK-WIFI/support#mem

I see some 6000 MHz RAM but unsure of the item part number that you got.

What I basically learnt is if you have an Intel based system go for XMP certified RAM, if you have an AMD based system then go for EXPO certified RAM, this is to save you some hassle really since these types of RAMs if used on the correct system then they are bound to work as expected and with a guarantee.
