Budget (including currency): 500-700

Country: US

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: 1440p gaming

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

PSU 750 W, currently have 5700xt and 5600x

I know the data isn't out there yet to have a clear answer, but how do you guys feel about buying a 6800xt now vs waiting for whatever the 7700xt or 7800xt release at? For around $550 I can get a 6800xt but it's a 2-year old card now with new 7000 series around the corner. I also thought about the 6900xt but I don't want to have to replace my psu. My worries about the 7000 series are waiting for the lower price cards to come out, those cards not having good price/performance, and not being able to get one when they release. I am a fan of the 6800xt, but am I being dumb by going all in on a gpu when better stuff is around the corner?

I think you can survive with 5700xt waiting for maybe a 7600xt. Just wait.

Fair enough. I upgraded my brothers 1080 to a 6800xt, but his 1080 is older and had some crashing issues so he couldn't wait like me. The 5700xt probably has all the performance I want anyway so maybe a 7600xt or 7700xt would be cool.

Why are you upgrading it, then? Save the money, buy a nice monitor or so, but don't buy something you don't need.

Wait for 7800/7700 to come out. It should fit the budget and will skyrocket the performance.

From the reviews so far, the RX-7000 series is a pretty big jump from the RX 5700XT, especially for 1440p / 4K.

I'd agree with the consensus, hold onto your 5700XT for a bit longer, and see how the 7800 (XT) / 7700 (XT), or even the RTX 4070 / 4060, will perform.

I went from a 5700XT to a 6800XT to satisfy my 1440p gaming requirements....but that was ~8 months ago.

Personally, I don't usually upgrade every generation, and it is usually not wise, but I decided to go against that because I upgraded from 1080p to 1440p.

(Radeon HD 7970s -- (2 generations)--> R9-Furys -- (4 generations) --> 5700XT --> 6800XT)

Should have waited for the RX-7000 series.
