I just need to know which mITX build will be better for my needs. I will do a mild OC with either rig, I don't need the extra threads of an i7 because I don't do encoding and that stuff. Just BF3/BF4/Project Reality/whatever comes with AMD's Never Settle, schoolwork, and ability to function as an HTPC. Down the road the first parts to be replaced will probably be the CPU/mobo soon after DDR4 and DDR4-ready platforms are out.

I have Windows, and may be running Linux Mint. Am trying to keep everything under $1100 after 12% sales tax and shipping here in Canada (hence the use of ca.pcpartpicker. com). Will only buy from DirectCanada (actually a price match from NCIX), NCIX, Memory Express and Newegg. Amazon is only sometimes viable because PCPartPicker

Thanks for the builds, but it must be mITX. Otherwise building an AMD build wouldn't be so hard and so expensive.

I think the reason why my builds appear so expensive and sucky is because I factor in all costs including shipping (if from Newegg) and taxes. The 770 build above comes in at $1285 after all that. I've managed to squash the Intel build down to $1040 and the AMD to $930, but that's about as low as it can go.

The AMD build I listed, after some edits, is at $805 before taxes + shipping. The Intel build I edited is $890 before all that.

Does AMD plan to make any AM3+ mITX boards? It kinda sucks that the 760K is the best mITX offering that AMD has.

@Thebman712 Thanks, I realized that $35 is way too high a price for the difference between b/g/n and b/g/n/ac. I've switched the Intel build to the MSI Z87I, both builds to the prodigy (only if you're sure, there are a lot of mixed reviews for the prodigy compared to the 250D's almost universal acclaim) and to a set of Sniper 1866 C9.

Intel: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/3CREp $837 b4 taxes, $956 after

AMD: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/3CRGE $740 b4 taxes, $854 after

That meme was great, <3 neil patrick harris

a theres not always sales tax on online items so i hope you took that into consideration and b you can find a 270 for 170$ whynot get that over the 265 and you can still get games, also c, if you have a 1100 budget why not use it all

also i think the 250d looks nicer than the prodigy

probably will start as an htpc but I will get another monitor for it.

ok that is why you dont want your whole budget also the 250d is so much better for a htcp, and i would suggest upgrading the gpu on the amd build to make it better and get that build as the price= performance will be far better on the amd build, especialy if  you dont need the extra core strengths of a i5 4670k

probably will start as an htpc but I will get another monitor for it, so probably a gaming rig more. I might trade the 265 for a GTX 660 just to be able to build a hackintosh

The 265 works just for for Hackintosh as long as you have integrated graphics to start up with.

If you ever need help with a build, read the following before posting: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/3061-build-plan-thread-recommendations-please-read-before-posting/

The 250D and 265 are back, this time the build is 18 cents shy of $1k. http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/3CRDh

You sure? Newegg did charge me the same 12% when I bought my E3-1230V2. I did read that Newegg doesn't charge sales tax, but only in the States and for all states except for Calif and NJ I think.

Hold on while I check what my build would cost me if I got it shipped to my Bellingham mailbox.

Goddamn it. That'll be only $861 in the states. Damn you Canada.

Performance wise the Core i5 will outperform the 760k. According to CPUBoss.com, the Core i5 4670k even has better performance than the FX 8350. Also, I suggest upgrading your PSU to 650W or better because those AMD Video cards can suck up alot of juice.

The 4670K is in a completely different league than the 760K; I know that much, I was just putting it out there because the 4670K build will cost $1100 CAD/$810 USD vs 900 CAD/$650 USD for the 760K build. The 4670K vs 8350 debate will depend on what one does with it, and except for encoding and such the 4670K is superior.

Please don't listen to AMD when it comes to power supply requirements; A good 450W is much more than enough for a R9 270. Hell, I could probably barely do 360W if I weren't overclocking. A 270 has only one 6-pin.

I've decided on this: http://pcpartpicker.com/parts/partlist/

I'll swap the 4570 for a 4590K/4690K and the Z87E-ITX for a Z97N Gaming 5 or Z97I-Pro.
