Bought an HDD for external storage for Mac. Showing 0KB storage space and won't initialize

kimjongsplooge

I bought an internal HDD to use as external storage for my Mac. I already have a 1TB that I use and I bought a 6TB because my dock has two slots. When I insert the new HDD into the dock it won't initialize and when I go into Disk Utility on Mac it's showing 0KB storage space and nothing I do either erase or restore will work its just giving me a nondescript error. My 1TB was just plug and play so I'm confused at what I'm doing wrong. The HDD is the WD 6TB NASware 3.0. I tried the HDD that works in both slots of the dock and it works in both. I even switched to my windows machine but neither of the disks are showing up on it.

Did you try it one drive at a time? My dual dock sometimes does funky things when both slots are populated, kinda defeats the purpose but...

Is there any easy way to see if the drive is damaged? It might be a hardware issue at this point I've tried everything

Best would be to try it on a completely different system/interface.
