Watching Linus's video on RAM speed: http://youtu.be/dWgzA2C61z4
It made me think about RAM and Virtualization.

After googling a bit I could not find anything about non-ECC DDR3 RAM.

So what do you guys think:
What latency and frequency is recommended for Virtualization (VMware workstation, Virtualbox etc.) ?

ooooh shit, another guy who wants more out of his RAM by tweaking it, how many times should we say this people, don't mess with your RAM, it'll run fine for a wile, and than stat causing problems and shutdowns all over the place after messing with it(because it is not being Cooled i guess) , you can check a Video linus uploaded talking about his overclocked tweaked Ram Going down, if you're not satisfied by the current performance of your Ram, Upgrade, it will be much much more useful and efficient than messing with it .

-Sorry i came in too Strong ;)

-if you want knowledge of this it fine but doing it, not as much

afaik they dont care about capacity or timings a lot because the performance difference it makes is negligible and they end up having more servers than having extra expensive rams, they mostly run the standarts like 1333-1600 they care about capacity more than extra little bandwidth

ignore people that tell you not to overclock your ram, it is quite fun to mess around with my 2+ year old corsair vengeance lp(1600mhz) rams are rocking 2000mhz since they day one without even having a airflow in my case.

Higher speed helps to a certain extent but in a rig you want decent capacity so you can assign ram to the host and ram to the VM.

When it comes to overclocking ram in a server or VM environment, I dont do it as it may cause issues with either the host or VMs. I typically get 1866 16GB of ram and call it a day for home use.
