Help needed to add 2nd GPU for another HDMI port on my PC

Kood Garma

I am trying to add an affordable 2nd GPU to add another HDMI port, since I've already used all four ports (3x DisplayPort, 1x HDMI) on my EVGA GeForce RTX 3070 FTW3 ULTRA GAMING attached via PCIe 4.0/3.0 x16_1 slot to an ASUS PRIME X570-P motherboard running an AMD Ryzen 7 3800X CPU running Windows 10. Is it okay to just add another GPU (i.e., GeForce GTX 1650) to one of the PRIME's other open PCIe slots?  If so, are there any recommendations, rules or limitations on which GPU will run smooth and play nice with my 3070? Thanks in advance!

That would be anything, as long as limiting air to the primary card is fine. A 550/ti can do that or any other $20 card off ebay if its just gonna drive a monitor.

Shouldn't be problem. Any old card would do just fine with that, wouldn't have to be a 1650 for example.

Thank you both for responding so quickly!  I actually came across a similar post titled "So I'm confused...issue with multiple gpus" where he appeared to experiencing stutter/chop moving windows between displays run by a 3070 and GT 710. Do you think that was unique to his situation or might that happen to me also?

Yea you should expect that. If you want to drag programs playing video between monitors and it be seamless, you should daisy chain via DisplayPort. Everything will have some sort of drawback.
Dragging stuff and a slight stutter shouldnt really matter, not like it will actually affect anything. Same with the video, if you prioritize having more monitors with multiple devices compared to doing it with one.

Thanks this should work fine for my multimedia D&D VTT setup then since I don't plan on doing a lot of dragging windows during my DM gaming sessions.  I am actually only planning to use each HDMI display port with a 8" touch screen monitor (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B091YVRT8P?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details), one to park the VoiceMod app in for voice fx and soundboard, and the other to park a music player app like Spotify or VLC; which frees up my 3x DisplayPort monitors and large monitor real estate for my primary apps like Foundry VTT, Chrome browser tabs, Discord, VoiceMeeter Potato.

I use a stream deck for voicemod, workd out pretty well in that regard. Infinite buttons and pretty good integration for the app.

I picked up an MSI GT 710 but I'm getting currently the following Device Manager error under Display Adapters for it. Right after I first installed it, Nvidia driver was installed for the GT 710 and it was working, but then my EVGA RTX 3070 was no longer being recognized so I reinstalled the Nvidia driver from EVGA site. Now the 3070 is working again, but the 710 is getting the error. Not sure what to do next.

SOLVED: Returned the 710 and picked up a 1660 Ti to run both HDMI touchscreens out of that, and the DisplayPort monitors out of the 3070 and all is good. Thx!
