Will there be new nvidias next year?

I was going to update from my 1660 super to start with VR (I have a 3950X CPU which is enough) but I see the new nvidias are those type of insane power hungry huge monsters that get rushed into the market to be refined in the iteration, that is smaller, less noisy, more efficient.

 

Is this going to be released next year or 2024?

We don't know for sure, but since Nvidia has been intent on clearing out stock of cards like the 3070 and 3060, I think they are holding off on models like the 4060 until 2023.

 

That said, there's nothing wrong with what's on the market currently, if you did actually go for a 3070 or perhaps something like an RX 6800.

Generation releases are trending towards every 2 years or so. That doesn't preclude a refresh mid-cycle. Something like a 3070 is still a lot of performance especially moving up from a 1660S.

They aren't, they're just expensive. 4090 is about as fast as 2 3090s for barely more power draw, I don't see how that's inefficient.

^^ AMD may have some good options, else wait for the rest of the Ada Lovelace lineup to see how lower cards fare.

First, you have a 1660S, right? Are you a typical buyer for top of the range flagship GPU's? As for being power hungry, 4090 for what it can down is downright incredible for how much power it typically draws in comparison to Ampere.

 

The only cards available in the "4000 series" so far are 4090 and 4080, the rest of the series will likely come out slowly next year. 

 

AMD's current lineup has some cards that are extremely decently priced that would be a significant step up from a 1660S and are worth considering.

There's always something around the corner. Best to wait about a week or two for stock to get back to normal'ish, and buy something now. I wouldn't even recommend the 4000 series just yet, due to the current issues with the series. Maybe go for a RTX 3070Ti or RTX 3080. In your case, either one would be a massive improvement. Might want to look at new psu's too. If you have anything from a 550W to a 750W PSU, you should upgrade to 850 or 1000W 80+ Gold.

Hopefully we are lucky enough that the 4050 isn't the $500 "budget" card... What is out right now if you care about performance get a 4090, if you care about bang for buck look into 7900XTX.  Value is going to be something last generation.

The nature of PC building is that of buyers remorse and making peace with what you have.

 

There will always be new cards, but i would count on any mid/low tier 7000 or 4000 series cards for a while due to how much current gen stock still exists.

 

i would recommend buying a good/great AMD card now since they represent more frames/dollar in every use case except raytracing.

 

If you're looking at efficiency as frames/watt the answer might surprise you. there are plenty of high power cards that actually do offer great efficiency

Could you point me in the direction of a $600 6900xt. I have been looking and I haven't found one at that price yet. Seems like all the cards are going up in price.

I was referencing myself I got mine at Microcenter for $629, which is the luck of the draw.  You find one at a good price, buy it.

 

The Speedster 6900xt was $650 today or yesterday?

im aiming for meta smooth VR with the best settings possible on my next update

 

im probably going to wait for the valve index 2 and 5000 series, that will be the sweet spot imo

I'm sure SOME got it for UNDER $700 (happy?) So yes it does happen.

 

I could just as easily keep saying I bought my now $1200 6900xt for $629 to keep irritating you but that's not the point.

 

The point is that they do go on sale, and you just have to catch one as I did.
