How to add 2.5gb NIC in Truenas?

Go to solution Solved by Bdavis,

Typically supported network cards are plug and play with TrueNAS. Most likely your card isn't supported. What flavor of TrueNAS are you using, Scale or Core? If your on core you could try switching to scale as it supports many more network cards since it's based on Linux. Core is very picky about NICs and I usually only buy Intel or Chelsio nics for it.

You may find a way to install drivers for it using shell. Best place to look for how to do that is on the TrueNAS forums.

hey guys! Im upgrading my NAS to 2.5gb! Or atleast im trying; i bought a TRENDnet network card (TEG-25GECTX) and im losing my mind. I cant figure out how to enable it or even see it in the web UI. any help would do wonders for my sanity, thanks!

core requires you to add 2 tuneables

2.5GigE Realtek NICs are unsupported in 13.0-U2. This is due to the Realtek NIC driver causing iSCSI data corruption and the driver is now disabled by default.

https://www.truenas.com/docs/core/corereleasenotes/ (ctrl + F realtek to see how to enable realtek driver via tuneables)

maybe also useful

This is the kind of stuff that made me switch to scale. Even my Intel 2.5 GbE card didn't work in Core. Worked right away in Scale. Did the clean install, imported my pools, and was back up an running. I did the clean install as I read some people occasionally have issues with the upgrade method. Overall the switch was painless.
