Hello there!

What would you choose to upgrade, I have a 3080 and a G34WQC.

I have the opportunity to get a AW3423DWF or a 4080.

I play cyberpunk and other less demanding games.

Getting the 4080 would get me reasonable fps with raytracing enabled in cyberpunk, but I must say that I have to concentrate a lot to see the difference. The alienware would give me better hdr experience, true blacks and other benefits.....

Thanks, every comments are welcome !

(one picture is with raytracing and other without.. can you guess wich one it is?)

RTX 4080 is a pretty bad purchase, I don't see why you would even consider it.

If you are already paying over 1k usd for a graphics card, why would you go for the heavily cut down gpu, when you can pay just like 200 usd more and get the top of the line?

Especially for raytracing I would never consider the RTX 4080.

Either get an RTX 3090ti (about as fast as 4080, but can be had for much cheaper used), or go all out with a rtx 4090. No half measures.

But which of the 2?

Honestly I would go for a monitor upgrade first. If you saw the tech news sections there is also a 27% new LG 1440p 240hz OLED monitor, that looks pretty nice, but the alienware is also good. You can just use DLSS 2.0 to get better raytracing framerates.

GPUs come and go, but a monitor remains on your desk for 5+ years usually.

I only see your reply if you @ me.

Spoiler

First image is ray tracing. Better reflections and some additional lighting/shadows, e.g. under the metal roof. And no floating tin can (look at its shadow)

Agree with @Origami Cactus. I'd go for the monitor. The 3080 is a very good GPU, no need to spend so much money for a minor upgrade.

Because I can have a deal on the 4080, the difference for me in CAD would be 400-500$ more for a 4090.

The 3080 with raytracing enabled on my 3440x1440 gives me 50-55 fps with dlss quality. With the 4080 I would have between 65 and 85 fps, dlss quality.

So my point is that I have to lower ray tracing settings a bit to be above 60 fps.

I think the monitor would give me better results than higher raytracing settings..

Yeah, if you put it like that, it makes the RTX 4080 purchase sound even worse, if it only gives about 10-20fps more for that huge amount of money.

Get the monitor now,and wait for a next gen Nvidia GPU that can actually raytrace faster and then get that.

Currently Nvidia raytracing improvements have been pretty small, I think the 4000 series raytracing cores were only about 9-13% faster than 3000 series, so nothing groundbreaking.

I only see your reply if you @ me.
