High end router, SLOW speeds

Dear Linus Community, I, Markes12344, am in need of your assistance.

I currently run a ASUS 66u, i am wired to it NOT WIRELESS, and my download speed dropped from 1.3MB/s to 200KB/s, yes both are BYTES and not BITS i am running off a 10Mbps connection witch stands for reason why im getting in the ballpark of 1.25MB/s directly wired to the modem.
But as the title says and as i stated, i run directly threw the ASUS router and the speed comes from 1.3MB/s to 200KB/s still wired, not wireless.
No one else is on the router, i am the only one as i am trouble shooting this.
I tried to see if stray noise may be the problem so far i got the router as isolated form noise as i can and see no difference.

Guess all i can ask now is ANY ADVISE?

Thanx
Markes12344

Yes i have... sadly did not solve. i tried moving to a new location in house, away from modem and other electronic things that may cause lag... no fix to it yet.

so far a hard reset is not working... i need to do a quick look to see if there is multiple resets on this device. ie. semi reset, Full reset

Set your NIC to 100Mbps instead of auto-negotiate.  See if that helps, sometimes the on board gigabit ports (on the PC) don't negotiate their speeds correctly.

They have a baseline of 10Mbps (hence 10/100, 10/100,1000), which is what he would be getting anyway.

I know that ASUS have some stupid intrusion detection setting. Make sure that's turned off - it destroys speed.

I've seen onboard NICs (Intel in particular) not negotiate speed correctly, or they say they are auto-negotiated with correct settings, but still perform like sour pigs.

Manually setting NIC to 1000Mbps/Full has fixed it every time.

*Note this is after I have ruled the router out as the issue and narrowed it down to the PC itself.

Have you tried to update the firmware to the latest version? Or a third party firmware?

I recommend Asuswrt-Merlin. It's based on Asus own firmware, but tweaked and improved (bug fixes etc.)

I tried DD-WRT on my AC66U, but the WAN speed was really poor for some reason. Never found out what the problem was.

Merlin works great though :)

When you work with networking equipment in all sorts of configurations all day like I do, you tend to see stuff like this happening.  I generally suggest starting slow and working your way up to the fastest speed you can set your NIC to, but working backwards from highest to lowest also works.
