Hullo,

Is there anything wrong with using a 1TB 2.5" drive in a desktop? I'm getting a H440 soon and just thought it would be cool to have a 2.5" hdd nestled next to the ssd on the psu cove while putting a few rads in the top and front, thus eliminating drive options.

Are they more prone to failing? Slower overall? or just unused in desktops because they're unnecessary?

Just an example: http://www.amazon.com/HGST-Travelstar-2-5-Inch-7200RPM-Mobile/dp/B0097LG9U8/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1398950115&sr=1-2

They are usually 5400RPM although you can get 7200RPM variants. They are not more prone to failure. I would suggest either a WD or Seagate drive rather than a HGST even though they are a sub company of WD they are not as good.

Ok, thanks.

So a 7200rpm 2.5" one should be about the same as a normal 7200rpm 3.5" one, right?

I would assume it wouldn't be noticeable but there might be a difference.

They're slower and access time is higher but there's nothing wrong on them, they just don't use them on desktops bc 3.5" units are a little cheaper, I can think about nucs and small ITX builds of examples that use them :/ they're used for low space

I know, but if I put a 360 rad in the front of the h440 there won't be anywhere to put a 3.5"

Edit: I just watched hardware canucks' video on the case again and he said that a 3.5" won't fit in the bottom case IF you put the fittings on the bottom, so i'll just put the fittings on the top and get a 3.5" on the bottom
