Hullo,

I recently took apart my HD 5850 (stock) from my old desktop and naturally, all the mosfet/power delivery/ram thermal pads came straight off with it. I'm thinking of smashing my old rig back together, get a hyper 212 evo or 212x for the cpu (depending on availability) because...why not?

Anyway, my question is: Is there much variation between different thermal pads in terms of thickness and/or material? if so, what's the best or recommended thickness and materials for all the components that need it?

Thermal paste for the gpu is taken care of by IC Diamond7.

Thanks guys

The material shouldn't matter, but the thickness might. Measure just in case.

So, a silicon pad would be fine? and how do I measure the required thickness? or do I just assume it's pretty much a direct contact?

how does one "smash" things back together

It's just a saying. Equivalent to haphazardly putting something together.
