I want a 1TB M.2 NVME  for my main{used for windows and all software and odd 1 or 2 games) then im going to upgrade my HDD to a SSD eventually for my games. So far I am looking at either the

HDDs are still good for most programs and games,

unless they are like 10+ years old...

SSD for games is great if you can afford it, but not all games need SSD to run faster or have noticable increase.

Depends on games though, and launching the games is always usually faster.

Fun fact, because of the semiconductors shortage, there's a version of 970 evo, with the 980 pro components, but with firmware running it in PCIe 3.0

I have a 970 evo, but I can also personally recommend the SK Hynix P31 which I've put in a laptop since it uses the least power and it works well.

If you are good with a budget drive but with non-budget 5 year warranty & high TBW, I would get a Silicon Power P34A60. No noticible difference with game load & boot times. Only noticible drawback might be slightly slower sustained write speed if you are moving a ton or huge files to it.

  • 2 weeks later...

Sry for interrupt, but I have dilema too with my nvme upgrade. I currently have two options:

  • Samsung 980 pro 1TB - 100 €
  • Crucial P3 2TB - 130 €

I dont have pcie4 and probably not going to upgrade my motherboard or cpu until something breaks. I included this pcie4 just because its good price and as ia see its good drive.

Thank you.

From what I heard the crucial p3 has problems now and then. I went with the 980 cause Samsung has the migration tool and was best for budget in the UK.
