So I have a whopping $300 to spend on a GPU and i want to get the best one for my first PC build. (Sadly I'm realizing $300 is almost nothing in GPUs😂)

I'm building a pc so I can game on it, but also to be a workstation that i can use for college and run some super heavy programs that my laptop simply struggles to keep up with.

I've been watching some videos and have been reading a lot about graphics cards and i think I'm going to get the Radeon 6600 xt graphics card, but I don't really know what memory bus width means and i see it has a relatively low bus width to many other options. I'm afraid that might hurt my purposes, but please give some suggestions about what i could get for less than $300 and still supply plenty for my gaming and work needs. (also i like the fact that i can get this closer to $250 and i don't have to spend the full $300 i have set aside to spend)

(I'm planning on getting 32gbs of ram, a 1tb m.2 storage, AMD ryzen 7 5700x CPU, a 240mm AIO cooler since the CPU doesn't come with a cooler and don't wanna worry about clearance problems with air cooler, and the gigabyte b550 Aorus elite ax v2 am4 motherboard and yes i know i will probably have to update the bios immediately) Any other suggestions about this would be super appreciated too!

The 6600XT is undoubtedly the best option for you if you want a gaming card and want to buy a new card. If going used you might be able to get a 6700XT for the same money, but 6600XT is already really good.

Memory bus width makes no difference in your use case, the 4080 12GB was memed upon because it was a 1000$ card, but the bus width makes perfect sense for a 250$ card.

I only see your reply if you @ me.

What kind of programs?

Not all programs benefit from GPU power.

yeah, but he already picked out a really cheap but powerful 8core cpu, so he is set on the cpu side aswell, the 12 core 5900x costs about double. And most programs can do OpenGL along with cuda, so unless it is a program that can only use Nvidia Cuda, he is fine.

The 6600XT is pretty good for its price, currently it is with the 6900XT the best deals you can get, NVidia cards being quite more expensive at same rasterization performance

Otoh the 5700X isn't great, it's cheap but for $50 more a 12600K is way better
