SMB compression?

Go to solution Solved by mariushm,

Should be transferred like any other binary file, with no awareness of the insides.  So bit exact.

Hi! So I want to share some wav files via SMB Server or network share you get the idea between MacBook and iPad. The files are high bitrate, high sample rate, basically high quality wav files. When I transfer I want no compression. So when I put the files in the folder on the SMB server on the MacBook and then when I go and get those files on the iPad from the SMB server(and download them on my iPad-move them to a local folder), will they have the same bitrate and sample rate as on the MacBook?  Basically will they retain their original quality? Do they get compressed? Is sharing using SMB the same as just transferring them via cable?

ok so no compression? It would be the same thing as if I transferred them via cable?

The files that go in will be the same files that come out the other end. File shares with lossy compression would be useless. You can't go around dropping letters from a document and end up with nearly the same end product like you can with audio. File sharing needs to assume every bit is important.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

ok thanks! so I can safely share them via SMB then and get the high quality. Thanks a lot!
