1. Budget & Location

Probably less than 5k

USA

2. Aim

Gaming, lastest games usually. I don’t do any CPU intensive work.

3. Monitors

1 27 inch 1440p

1 27 inch 1080p (side monitor)

Will eventually change to 4k (not sure about screen size yet)

4. Peripherals

Running windows and just a regular mouse and keyboard

5. Why are you upgrading?

My current PC has a i7-7700 and GTX 1080. It is due for an upgrade.

Build plan atm:

AMD Ryzen 7700x

Asus TUF Gaming x670E plus wifi

G skill Trident Z5 32 GB DDR5-6400 CL32 - Timing 32-39-39-102

Phanteks Eclipse G360A

Samsung 980 Pro 2TB

Seagate IronWolf Pro 8TB (will buy a second one eventually for RAID 1)

Questions:

1.    CPU Cooler – I’m between NZXT Kraken Z73 vs Corsair iCUE H150i – will get the temp monitor LCD screen because I’m paranoid about the cooler failing and not being able to tell. Any suggestion? And I’m not sure if a 240mm is sufficient.

2.    Using my old GPU until ryzen comes up with their line up to make a decision but will go for 4090 or an equivalent. Is EVGA SuperNOVA 1000w G6 80+ Gold Certified sufficient/good? Or should I go 1200 W?

Future upgrade path idea:

Upgrading the GPU and add more ram (hence why I pick the case that can accommodate a longer length).

Absolutely zero need for 8TB of mechanical storage let alone two of them in raid 1 for just a gaming computer. Spending the money you plan to on those two 8TB mechanical drives would be better spent on a larger size Sata SSD for game storage, plus raid is pointless for game storage. Unless you're using this computer for something else, but your explained uses make it seem like it is a strictly gaming computer.

As for your questions, with any of the higher end CPUs especially these newer 7000s and Intel 13th gen you will want to go with a 360mm AIO not a 240.

Which GPU? Really that's up to you, just keep in mind that AMD GPUs have all sorts of driver issues especially when they first launch. With the budget and plans you have why not just go for the RTX 4090? It's going to be hard for even the new AMD GPUs to beat it, let alone who knows what issues they may have at launch. If you are going 4090 or 4090 equivalent you might as well go 1200W, I don't have personally experience with the card yet but most of the people who do say 1000w may not be the move.

Thanks spookycitrus!

The raid is mainly for family pictures and videos, which losing to a drive failure is not an option (i prefer the convenience of it too). 8TB feels convenient/random number to house everything for a long long time to come (including all my movie and tv content). I do have a 2.5 inch SSD to add to the system.

I will go with the 360 AIO! and the 1200W power supply.

As for graphic card, they aren't in stock for the regular MSRP prices and I just don't want to pay scalper price atm. Thus, I'm just gonna wait until something good and reasonable comes along.

I've also fix the PC part picker list.
