GoPro vs. DSLR

Go to solution Solved by ShadowCaptain,

Hey,

I have been saving up for a new camera and I have enough money for the GoPro Hero3+ Silver edition.

But....its only about £30/$50 to get a Canon 1100D/Rebel T3.

The 1100d is a pile of poo, and takes terrible 720p video

Better off with a nikon 3100 for a similar price. Takes better video, even has autofocus (albeit slow and basic) but it takes much better 1080p video

The go pro is good camera but only really useful as an action camera. The footage is slightly fish eye, and it doesnt take stills.

2 very different cameras

So my question is, shall I get the gopro or the Canon?

What I've got so far is that the gopro is much better for portability and shooting there and then.

But the Canon is higher quality and I can change all the ISO and exposure settings e.t.c...

What do you think?

The GoPro can take stills. It's just low quality compared to a DSLR.

Yeah it can, but its pretty pointless and difficult to frame without the LCD back and very little control over settings

Its really only good as an action camera. barely use mine unless on my motorbike or airsofting

I probably wouldn't use the gopro that much as I only go mountain biking, I will check out the Nikon and see if that looks better. The only thing I really like about the gopro, is that you can just chuck it in your bag and go and film things :)

But overall I think I will go with the DSLR, thanks guys!

I have Sony RX100 because better built in microphone and image stabilizer vs Canon

I don't think his budget is big enough for RX100.

If I'm wrong, then +1 for Sony RX100.

Never trust my advice. Only take any and all advice from me with a grain of salt. Just a heads up.
