We need more info. What CPU are you currently running, what are you doing with your system, how much do you want to spend, etc.? There are a ton of variables that will influence what makes the most sense.

That said, in almost all of those scenarios it won't make sense to go AM5. Motherboard prices are way too high to make any sense for the lower end CPUs (7600X and 7700X), and the higher end CPUs, while good, still get beaten on price and performance by the 13th gen Intel CPUs. There are times when it does make sense to go AM5 instead, mainly if you do things that need AVX-512 or do a ton of Blender work since the Ryzen 9s hold a lead in those workloads, but if you don't use those you're much better off either sticking to AM4 or going 13th gen.

Go AM5 the difference is unreal. I had a 5900x system 3080ti, and went to a 7950x based system. I suspect it would feel similarly fast with an nice 8 core zen 4

This is some serious justifying a meaningless upgrade

I have a Ryzen 5 3600 and want to upgrade to a 7 7700X or a 7 5800X.

Why do you want to upgrade?  That's the real question you need to answer.

So cute.

You have a car, should you get a newer one or upgrade to a truck?

If you are already on AM4, the 5800X3D is the ultimate no-brainer until 2nd gen AM5 CPUs come out. No point to look for anything else.
