GTX 770 2GB or R9 280X?

True, but for some games running in windowded or borderless fullscreen yields slightly less FPS. Plus, the center of your screen will be split between the bezel of your monitors.

I have to run my games in windowed because i always have something else open on the other monitor and im pretty casual on my games so i dont mind running my plane into the ground to change the song, lol

That's weird. With my windows 8 machine I can use my other programs that are on the other monitor while in a fullscreen game, I don't even have to tab out.

 

Anyways, even 2GB would be enough for 2 monitors, for your usage case anyways.

I definitely recommend the Asus DC2 R9 280X over the EVGA GTX 770 because the Sapphire 280X runs significantly quieter and cooler than the EVGA 770 & largely because of memory & memory bandwidth disadvantages of the 770.

Plus you get three games for free with the 280X.

In PCPer's testing both the GTX 770 and GTX 760 experienced numerous lag spikes that Ryan described as being "very noticeable" in Bioshock Infinite, both in 1920x1080 and 2560x1440, these lag spikes did not exist with an R9 280X, the conclusion was due to the 770 and 760 running out of memory

Both the PS3 and the XBOX360 had 512mb of memory available for the GPU, in contrast both the PS4 & XBOX1 have 8GB of memory shared between the CPU & GPU. The majority of game development starts on the consoles due to quality & framerate targets and then trickles down to the PC, developers only had 512mb of VRAM to work with just two years ago and now they have 6-8 times as much, we'll start seeing much higher resolution textures in games and more memory intensive effects that the developers could not have implemented before, this includes global illumination and other forms of ray-tracing, longer view distances, more complicated depth of field effects, sub-surface scattering, more tessellation and so on.

And this issue becomes even more detrimental in SLI because as the game becomes more demanding the higher memory it will require and so you will run into a memory brick wall before you can make use of the additional performance of the second card.

And it's not just Bioshock Infinite, a lot of modern games like Tomb Raider, Batman Arkham Origins, Rome 2 Total War, Skyrim with high-res textures & BF4 in specific multi-player levels & generally in single-player.

They are not. They have some of the best coolers and the best warranty/support of any manufacturer.

This is confusing, your the only one recommending the 280x but i watched that Podcast and i see the graphs and i understand however that was in Oct of 2013. Theres been multiple patches now, however i make the point that my 660ti is already getting up to 1800MB of use on the memory bus in BF4

Both cards are equal for all intents and purposes but you do get more memory with the 280X so the card will last you longer and you get to pick three games out of the never settle bundle.

The Sapphire 280X Vapor-X also happens to be significantly cooler and quieter than any other similarly priced 280X or 770.

All things considered you will find that the 280X offers a better overall deal.

An EVGA ACX card would be the best option, or maybe a DCUII card.

"Great" Their Nvidia Stream service (The service that handles both Shadowplay and Nvidia GameStream) Eats up all your RAM until your system crashes.... A horrible bug that prevents me from using it. Several people have the problem and it really annoys me that nothing has been done about it.

Everybody whines about me having all Intel and NV stuff, ask one question with an AMD card and all the answers are NV.... WTF

true ... i have been watching some answers of people over here and when the topic is related to NV vs AMD and 99% them are going with NV just because ... they dont even say why or the pros and cons ... wow well i would say go for AMD  you will have more VRAM and the memory bus its better 384-bit vs the 251 bits of NV and if you are wondering about the temps on the 280x with after market coolers are about the same with NV ones ... so yeah guys get your shit together and explains why and stop being such annoying fanboys....

GTX 770 is plenty for 1080p 23", 3GB of Vram is a little overkill and you'll never use it on a 23" mon

seriously ? over kill ? the 280x is perfect for 1080p gaming and more VRM for games like skyrim are always better ...

Let me put my opinions here.

 

Gtx 770 = 2gb is plenty for 1080p, has shadow play yadayada grab it if you need the features. since you're in the us you might benefit from grabbing evga.

 

r9 280x = I'd suggest sapphire it's been a great brand for me and 2nd would be msi, 280x has 3gb and would be great if you love to put all those AA up there in the sky and with all the mods from skyrim and such.

 

In the end choose which feature you want.

geforce experience, shadow play, gsync(need new monitor),  physx = 770.

mantle,eyefinity, "freesync" (not sure about this), = 280x

 

If it were my advice go grab whichever is cheaper. but if it were my buying I'd grab the most expensive card I could get to satisfy my self.
