PC shutdown randomly (No CPU load, No GPU load, nothing)

Hello there,

I build a new pc and run into an issue which I really cant identify why it is happening. First of all the specs.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700x
Cooler: Dark Rock 4

MB: Aorus B550 Elite V2
RAM: TridenZ neo 2x8GB 3600mhz

GPU: GTX 1080
PSU: 750W be quiet Straight power 11

OS: Win10

Well I really dont know what I should do atm. The PC randomly shuts off within 5-10mins without doing anything. I changed the cables for the GPU, I ran it with 1 stick of RAM, I switched SATA cables (there are 2 SSD and the Case on the SATA cable). I did the bios update to F14 for the 5700x. I installed somehow the drivers for the chipset, but cant install the GPU drivers because its shutting off all the time.
There is no overheating or something... I checked the temps. In the eventmanger its the Code:41 if someone wants to know.

Anyone knows what I could try? Im out of ideas atm.

Im thankfull for every suggestion.

Did you have the GTX 1080 from another computer?

Code 41 states the system shut down unexpectedly, so there's a lot that can be going on. Most likely not related, RAM in 2nd and fourth slot from CPU socket?

Its from my old pc because the pc is for my girlfriend. So yeah its from another PC and it worked like 1 week ago. I could check it in my rig tho. And yes 2 - 4 Socket...

I would just check that the graphics card works in the old PC just to make sure nothing happened while transferring to this build. If that is fine and no issues there, the next culprit I would be looking at is the power supply. I'd try a different power supply and run the system on the motherboard box. There's always a chance that even though something is new, can be DOA.

This. It kinda sounds like a faulty PSU, or perhaps motherboard.

But just to clarify (and no offense, these are common mistakes) - RAM and GPU properly seated? Removed plastic sheeting from cooler contact base? Proper cleaning and thermal paste application? CPU latched in properly? Cooler making good contact with CPU and firmly installed? No CPU or socket damage or contamination (thermal paste can get places you don't want it, and it's easy to bend pins or misalign them)?

I tried booting a CPU with no cooler just for a quick test once, and it shut down on thermal quick, fast and in a hurry. Didn't even get through a fast boot. And there's a chance a shutdown might not register a thermal spike.

ADDED: One other thing, Ryzens and the boards supporting them can be quite fussy about RAM. I used a kit that mine didn't like and it drove me nuts with similar issues for months. QVL did not list my RAM kit's SKU, hence compatibility and stability were not guaranteed. So this is something else to look into.

Well im going to try if my GPU is working tomorrow then because its getting late in germany.. I also thought it could be the PSU but i never experienced this. Like im doing nothing and it shuts down.

Im going to "rebuild" it tomorrow probably... Maybe its somehting with the cpu or the ram but i reinstalled them RAM like 4times now. The board says it supports till 3200 but i looked it up and it was under the supported RAM kits so it should work..

Maybe im trying my ram tomorrow and maybe just maybe its going to work.

FYI: The parts are used. But the MB never got used it was sealed, the cpu was used once and worked. Well its driving me nuts because I cant think of any reason why it shouldnt work...

The thing is when the PC shuts down and im trying to reboot it it wont. There is no picture the keyboard isnt lighting. Which means it boots the GPU and CPU (lighning) but the USB stuff wont turn on and the monitors. Maybe this is an indicator?

The speed is not the only critical factor here. The CPU has a max supported RAM speed, and boards have a Qualified Vendor List that is good to go by, especially in cases like this. And that comes down to the specific part number.

I have a 5900X / RTX3060ti rig I built brand-new that ran fine for two weeks or so. One night, it shutdown hard while gaming. Fans wide open all around, no audio or video. Reseated RAM / GPU, seemed to fix it, but after that, it had no video on startup every 8-12 boots. After four months of cussing, fussing, pulling my hair out, vertically mounting GPU to eliminate sag, and twelve partial disassemblies, the board was RMA'd.

I finally figured it out when one of the DIMMs caused a different set of issues in a different board. Installing the second brought back the no-video startup. From there, the first DIMM caused audio-only and video-audio cutout when gaming until I swapped for QVL-recommended RAM for that board and the issues went away. When the original board returned, installed RAM from that board's QVL as well. Stopped the issues cold. So while there are situations where RAM might work no matter what, it's not as much of a given with Ryzens.

Here is the link to the board's Qualfiied Vendor List... Quick and easy way is to CTRL-F (for FIND), then enter the RAM's SKU number. If it's not there, there's a possibility that may be the problem. This can vary by processor series (Vermeer vs Matisse, etc.) so for future reference, be sure to clarify this. The 5700X is a Vermeer, which is what this list is for.
