I really need some help. I'm kinda lost here. Which is better for gaming?

Okay, so the situation is I have a 5950x and a 5800x3d and i don't know which one to keep.

If its a case of the 5950x sometimes winning on fps and the other half of the time the 5800x3d taking the lead by a small amount with each CPU, respectively, then I'd keep the 5950x for the extra cores as there is little advantage to the 5800cx3d and it is more practical to have more cores.

So what do you think people? Is the gaming performance about the same with sometimes one taking a marginal lead and other times, the other CPU taking a marginal lead?

According to this video, it is a case of sometimes the 5950x wins and other times the 5800x3d but I've seen other benchmarks comparing more modern CPUs showing the 5800x3d to have performance that matches up to that newer generation. Yet, in this, it shows the 5950x is often winning. So I am very confused.

Basically, I want to keep the 5950x because it has 16 cores but I won't if the 5800x3d provides distinctly better gaming performance. Please please please help me out here, this is a very important decision and I'd greatly appreciate the help.

Welcome to the forums!

The 5800X3D would take the lead in most cases against the 5950X due to the extra L3 cache that makes it faster. Most ideal in gaming as most games don't use 16 cores and only at most 4 cores.

From what I have seen the 5800X3D mostly yields better gaming performance than the 5950x. In some cases the increased cache doesn't matter as much but mostly it appears to be good for gaming. From what I have seen.

Per the reviews, the 5800x3D is the better gaming chip. It falters slightly doing CPU heavy content creation/editing etc but the extra L3 cache helps in many games compared to the higher single core speed

Thanks everyone. I'm going to miss 16 cores, for sure... But... The FPS I get is more important to me. Thanks again!

Depends on the resolution. At 1080p/1440p the 5800X3D will be faster in most games with a high end gpu. At 4K it won't make any difference as you are mostly gpu bound.
