AMD new ARM processors & APU upgrades.

ERSCreeper

AMD has announced their new ARM server processors and their new upgrades to the APU lineup.

ARM’s emerging challenge to the x86 architecture in the server space just picked up some serious momentum as AMD announced it will start shipping sample 64-bit ARM processors, along with associated development kits, to partners in the upcoming months.

AMD's new Beema and Mullins chips offer boosted performance and lower power draw than their respective successors, along with an integrated ARM Cortex-A5 chip for security purposes.

That's it? That's the reveal? Well this is actually pretty great to see ARM going more places than before. I don't recall AMD making ARM architectural systems before so I wonder how this will go.

I think you're confused. AMD announced 2 things. The new Beema APUs, and the new ARM processors. There is no ARM APU, they are separate.

They have now integrated the APU's into their new arm processors. Unless I have misread.

Designed for low-end laptops, the Mullins and Beema chips are based around the company's Puma+ 64-bit x86 processing cores and Graphics Core Next (GCN) graphics processing cores. The biggest change over its previous generation APUs, however, is the integration of a Cortex-A5 processing core from Cambridge-based low-power chip giant ARM; this chip isn't used for general-purpose processing, but instead provides ARM TrustZone support - a distinct execution environment which can ensure the integrity of data running on the main processing cores.

They added a single arm core within their new Beema APUs for system security. This single core is not for everyday processing, and there is little to no performance difference due to its addition. It is still a normal x86 architecture CPU.

They also announced a separate line of server grade ARM processors. they are not APUs. This is where I think you confused them.

They have integrated an ARM core (a5) into their apus. And its only useful for security purposes. So dont get overhyped

Ah that would make more sense. Thanks for clearing that up :)

Here is a quote that may help:

AMD's new Beema and Mullins chips offer boosted performance and lower power draw than their respective successors, along with an integrated ARM Cortex-A5 chip for security purposes.

The ARM is just for security in the Beema and Mullins APU.

The other announcement was a 64bit ARM processor for server application.

Are you sure you know what an APU is?

Don't be an ass. I'm not stupid. Just because I misread something doesn't mean you have to attack someone.

Ahahah!I told you it was an APU upgrade!!!

I didn't predict ARM though.

I have been thinking about the ARM idea for a while but I didn't think about them adding a ARM core to their APU's for better security reasons. NSA!

I am not attacking you, you are attacking me. If I thought you were stupid, I wouldn't have asked, but rather made a statement directly regarding the subject material, with extreme simplicity with the assumption you have no knowledge of it. I also did not wish to do you the disservice of answering by making assumptions of your knowledge/intelligence without trying to ascertain where you might be making your mistake and therefore create more confusion. You being sensitive to misreading something does not give you right to insult or bully others attempting to help, regardless of the intentions you project upon them.

I do apologise. I didn't mean to come off like that.

So is it APU or CPU because thats a big difference, the links say "processor" which is not APU..

If you know you should update main post OP. As far as i understand theres a new APU with arm cores for security and SERVER processors Opterons with same ARM cores for security if im not wrong am i?
