Chrome lags waiting for HDD to spin up

ka_re_t

Hi all.

My current setup involves an NVMe SSD boot disk and 2 hard drives.  Chrome is installed on the boot disk, and only games go on the hard drives.

I've noticed an odd thing recently where if I navigate to a tab I haven't used in hours, Chrome completely stalls out and I can hear the sound of one HDD or another starting to spin.  As the whine of a disk spinning at ever increasing speeds stops (because it reached 7200RPM), suddenly Chrome is fine again.

Is Chrome storing my cache on a slow drive?  Or what's happening, and most importantly, how can I fix it?
