CPU and motherboard upgrade

I'm currently using an AMD x4 750k with an Msi a75 ma e35 and I want to upgrade to intel. I just bought an arc mini R2 so I need matx. I want to go with ivy bridge because I am using a cx500 with isn't haswell ready. I think I just want to go with a dual core.

I need help finding an Matx 1155 motherboard with 2 dimm slots. 1 pci express lane, USB 3 and sata 6gbps!

Would an i3 show a real world performance increase over the 750k?

Any help would be appreciated! :)

Honest the "haswell ready" thing isn't that important unless you leave your computer on and doing absolutely nothing for periods of time. I would say that if you want a cheap upgrade get a Core i3-4130 and a H81 Matx motherboard. It will be around $160 total for the pair and yes there will be a real world difference.

Haswell-ready just means it can use the power saving features. If it isn't Haswell-ready, you can just turn the power saving features off.

If you're talking about an Ivy or Haswell desktop i3, it should outperform the 750K. Whether the difference in performance is notable will depend on what you're doing.

Why are you upgrading from the 750k? Is your current performance unsatisfactory?

To be honest I don't like the motherboard I am using. I didn't want to pour more money into a platform where CPU upgrading isn't as beneficial as it is on the 1150 platform. I don't like the mounting system for fm2.

The CPU side of things h.264 encoding is a bit unsatisfactory on the 750k. I honestly don't know if the i3 will be better. I just want to get into the intel platform.

Why are you using your cpu and not gpu for h264 encoding?

Handbrake uses h.264 right?

I didn't know GPUs were the optimal choice.

It can.

Gpus are much better than cpus for encoding if the option is available.

How do you use your GPU in handbrake

Enable hardware acceleration. They started adding it to the beta.

Yeah next time I encode some movies I'll check the options out.

But to get back on topic I ordered a 4130 and the Msi b85m-g43

Is it too late to cancel the order? It isn't that much of an upgrade..

I'm ok with that. I don't want to spend any more than I already have.

I'm also repurposing my old CPU And motherboard for a computer for the family.
