laptop: asus zephyrus m15, 2070 max q

my current one has the US shape outlet, and my country used to use the same but now is switching to the UK outlet, so any time i go to any new building i cant charge my laptop . im a student and my university has both old and new buildings so its a gamble if i can charge my laptop or not in each building.

is it ok to swap the cable (see first picture , the one in the circle) with a different one? or should i just get an outlet plug adapter (see the second picture)? the reason i am a little hesitant on getting a plug adapter is that i dont know if they should be used for gaming laptops (mine is 230 watts)

If it is possible to swap the cable, is there anything i should look for when searching for a new one? Also, what is this cable called (English isn't my first language so I'm not sure how to search for it in the first place). wouldn't mind taking some recommendations on which cable i should take 🙂

If i should just take an adapter, any recommendations on good ones that hopefully wont explode on me (this actually happened to me before, that's why i have PTSD from plug adapters )

It really depends on your power brick and the voltage of the plug. US standard is 110-120Volts Vs the UK standard is 230 Volts. I am amusing they are not only swapping the plug but also the voltage of the outlet?

That said many power bricks are designed for both they usually say something like Input 100-240 volts ~. If that is the case it is just a matter of finding the right cable to supply it with power if that is the case your adapter will work. However it is saids something like 100-120 volts~, then you really need to figure out the voltage of the outlet. If the outlet is supplying 230volts and your power brick is only expecting 110 volts your going to have problems 🙂

Virtually every power brick will handle 110v-240v.  They should have it printed on the brick itself.  As long as it will accept either, all you need is a plug adapter.

The cable you circled above, I have used with 240v plug adapters for UK and Euro outlets--for years on end--without issue.

Plug adapters can be the wild west if you are spending $.05 on one and hoping that it doesn't grenade itself.  UL is a USA rating, and I don't know what your respective country has for an equivalent certification.

we used to have both 110 AND 220 volts, so building used to have 2 outlets next to each other but different voltages(the 220 volts outlet was shaped like the 110 in the US but instead of 2 vertical lines one was horizontal), so we are used to checking the back of products to see what voltage they support. now only 220 volts for new buildings (using UK shape outlets), but any old building that has 110 still uses 110,however  it was announced that in the future even those will be 220 volts.

my concern was the cable i circled above, can i swap that with anything that fits the brick? or are there any particular specs i should be looking for? (the brick is 19.5 V , 11.8A , 230 WATTS). i know the brick is the most important part, im not swapping that, i just wasn't sure if i should get any random cable to connect it to.

from what im understanding from the both of is that that is the case right?

Also, if getting a plug adapter is cheaper than getting a cable, then i don't mind getting one even if its more expensive than the typical 5 dollar ones that u should probably only charge ur phone with . if that is the case, any recommendations on good ones? i can get anything from amazon US or UK so dont worry about recommending things that are not originally from where i am

What is the input of the brick rated for? If it's rated for 110-240V like it should be, just get one of these cables.

Since you only gave output voltage and wattage, we don't know if you can just use a different cable or need a power converter that will also change voltage.

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

I will find your mentions of Ikea or Gnome and I will /s post.

Like I stated, a cable is unnecessary if the brick will handle dual-voltage.  If it does, all you will need is a plug adapter.  I don't know your country, so I can't help you look for something local.  But any plug adapter for UK style plugs will work.  I have some that look pretty much like this:

As you can see, these will accept a variety of plugs, including UK plugs.  So your standard 3 prong US connector will work just fine.

P.S.

I don't have a ROG, but I've had an MSI and a Gigabyte both with that style of cable plugging into the brick--and again--as I said--they worked fine for many, many months or even years without any issue...on just a plug adapter and 220v.

the reason i was a little hesitant on getting a plug adapter is cuz i used to have one that literally blew up while charging an iphone ,so i have a little trauma from that. if you used one for a gaming laptop and it was fine can you link it to me please (that is if you got it from an online site)

You already said you can't order from the places in the USA or UK, so IDK how you think I'll be able to link something you'd be able to buy from directly.
