I've been using handbreak lately and it works fine but whenever i try and get a 1920x1080 16:9 aspect ratio the file looks Squashed or Stretched.

Most movies aren't using 16:9 aspect ratio, that's why you often get the black bars on the top and bottom of TV screens when watching a movie. Don't try to force the resolution/aspect ratio. Leave it on Automatic or use whatever the original source resolution & aspect ratio is.

So how can i deflect the squashing and Stretching affect with out having Black bars on the top and bottom of the screen.

You could crop the movie to cut off the edges to force it to 16:9 aspect ratio, but then you'd be cutting off the edges of the movie. It would look worse.

Hi Guys,

I have A Plex Server At home. I use it to store some of the recordings of movies off my tv you know Free To Air! Lately I've been unsatisfied with video quality and want to start putting my dvd's and blu-rays on the server but I don't want to wipe the discs when doing so in case my server breaks so i don't lose all of them. I've been using handbreak lately and it works fine but whenever i try and get a 1920x1080 16:9 aspect ratio the file looks Squashed or Stretched. Im just a kid so i can't buy new tv's and laptops with more standard resolutions for this time. So how can i deflect the squashing and Stretching affect with out having Black bars on the top and bottom of the screen. Also I use to computers one is for the movie server but i use my laptop for the DVD's and Blu-ray If you need the specifications of ethier device to help me just ask and ill grab it for you.

Thanks and I hope you guys can help me since the LTT comunity is awsome!

I might need to add some dvd's have scaled prefectly. But some won't due to the way the dvd was made. If this info helps you with a soulution or awnser its here

Also Is this in the LTT GUIDELINES TELL ME IF IT ISN'T I'M NOT SURE!

Not. If a movie is filmed at 21:9 you cant magically make it 16:9 and fill the screen without losing something. Its black bars at the bottom and top or have a very weird looking movie.
