Why Intel and not AMD?

I don’t have a strong opinion on one over the others except that AMD tends to have a slightly better price to performance ratio. Both companies make great stuff.

If you can wait it out (including scarcity at launch) then definitely go for the new stuff if you can afford it.

If you go with 13th gen you wont have an upgrade route since it will be the end of its life cycle for that socket.  If you go with AMD they are going to support AM5 until 2025+ so you could get a 7000 series now and in 2-3 years upgrade to the best of the AM5 platform like a potential x3d version and at this rate that may net you an extra 1-2ghz.

Don’t have a set one. Trying to build something that will last and perform extremely well is the goal

No budget? I got you.

But seriously.  Something like a 5900x or 12700k is going to last you a long while.

As far as gaming is concerned, everyone gets all hopped up about benchmarks at 1080p.

Cpu is less of a concern at 1440p and up.

Just make sure you grab 8 cores or more imo.

If I were recommending someone buy today, I would say get either a 5800x3d, 5900x, 12600k or 12700k and a well rated power supply with 1000 watts.

(5800x3d, b550, gold+ 1000watt seasonic, corsair, or evga)

Can't predict the future though.

A 9900k is still an amazing chip and that's from 2018.
