Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Elden ring, Anno 1800, WoW, Hogwards Legacy!

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

CPU: Intel® Core i5-12600KF, 3,7 GHz (4,9 GHz Turbo Boost) - € 319,00
CPU Cooler: be quiet! Dark Rock 4 - € 67,00
Motherboard: Gigabyte Z690 AORUS ELITE DDR4 (rev. 1.0) - € 209,00
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX CMK32GX4M2D3600C18 - € 115,00

Power Supply: Fractal Design Ion Gold 750W - € 70,00
Total:  € 1731,00

Playing on an ultrawide screen 3440x1440 at 60 hz (might upgrade to 3440x1440 at 144 hz in the future)

additional notes:

 - build as quiet as possible (without spending too much on it)

 - last me for about 5 years

 - no cutting edge stuff (DDR5, 13th gen intel, 4xxx gpu)

 - prefer intel/nvidia

 - i5 for gaming any day

 - I took this CPU as it was just a little more expensive as 12400 & 12500

 - DDR5 compatible motherboard just in case

Let me know what you think!

Looks ~fine, I'd personally want a bit larger psu, although  750 is most likely enough

You can probably find a cheaper storage like a wd blue, since Samsungs tend to be a bit overpriced

I'd also check if 3200 cl16 ram is cheaper since it tends to be so.

Id get a B660 instead since oc dosent really gain a lot of perfromance, 100-200 mhz at best with a good cooler

Boards can only be one or the other since ddr4 and 5 are notched differently

If Vengeance LPX DDR4-3200 CL16 2x16GB is available at a lower cost, you will not notice a difference.

A number of manufacturers offer two versions of the same motherboard. One for DDR4, the other for DDR5. I don't believe there are any motherboards that support both.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

There is one H610 board made by some obscure Chinese manufacturer that has both of them, but it only supports single channel memory and realistically should be avoided unless you get it for free.

Overall, looks pretty good to me, except that DDR4 motherboards aren't compatible with DDR5 (it's a different design at the hardware level), so you'll want to reconsider that choice if future-proofing is big concern for you.

I was going to mention the 32GB RAM but seeing as you plan to play Anno 1800 (and boy does that game ever suck RAM), that seems like a pretty motivated choice to me. For the GPU, I have an MSI Ventus 3070 myself and it has served me well, so no issues with that choice there.

Only other suggestion would be that Samsung drives tend to be somewhat overpriced for the money (which I say as the owner of both a Samsung 860 and 970 lol), but I'm not too familiar with hardware pricing in NL so it might well be the best option for you.

Other than those few considerations, looks pretty good to me.

Main PC:

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X • Noctua NH-D15 • MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk • 2x8GB G.skill Trident Z Neo 3600MHz CL16 • MSI VENTUS 3X GeForce RTX 3070 OC • Samsung 970 Evo 1TB • Samsung 860 Evo 1TB • Cosair iCUE 465X RGB • Corsair RMx 750W (White)

Peripherals/Other:

ASUS VG27AQ • G PRO K/DA • G502 Hero K/DA • G733 K/DA • G840 K/DA • Oculus Quest 2 • Nintendo Switch (Rev. 2)

Laptop (Dell XPS 13):

Intel Core i7-1195G7 • Intel Iris Xe Graphics • 16GB LPDDR4x 4267MHz • 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD • 13.4" OLED 3.5K InfinityEdge Display (3456x2160, 400nit, touch).

Got any questions about my system or peripherals? Feel free to tag me (@bellabichon) and I'll be happy to give you my two cents.

Thanks for all the comments!

Let me try to consolidate them all:

- I guess I misread the DDR4 DDR5 compatibility, I will surely go for the B660 board

- The 3200 cl16 ram is about 1 euro cheaper as far as I can see (will have another look later), so I guess I will just stick with this?

- For some reason I always go with Samsung for storage, but I will surely checkout WD and probably go with that

- Will check the PSU again, I might indeed go for 850 just to be safe
