The PWM controller is dying

So the PWM controller of my HD 6970 is dying.

As a result fan speeds are all over the place regardless of what i set in MSI Afterburner.

 

I can play a game and the speed just changes all the time to random RPM speeds and levels of noise.

For example:

1900RPM > 1200RPM > 3200RPM > 2400RPM

 

And the temps are below 70C so the issue is not temperatures...

 

Is there an adapter that i can use to connect the GPU fan to the motherboard?

Likely it can be done, but not directly unless they already have motherboard-style PWM header connectors. You might check with PirateDog Tech to see if they sell a PWM header connector with bare leads that can be wired to the fan leads.

Dunno what kind of connector your GPU fan uses.

At worst you'll have to make one yourself. Pretty easy, just make sure you buy the connector with cables already attached to it. At least for the female PWM one.

Pretty sure the GPU side in the link above is a JST PH

The motherboard side is Molex KK 254

 

As for what type of connector your GPU fan use, Idk.

Could be Molex Picoblade, or other Molex / JST variant.

I could probably identify it if I have a clear picture of it, the connector & the header
 

Also, kinda a long shot, but it could be just a matter of worn out / pinched out cable

The pinout is the same as a motherboard header.

I made my own adapter,

It works but PWM controller of the motherboard doesn't handle the blower fan well,

To the point where you can hear that the PWM signal isn't continuous,It ramps up and then down in pulses every 0.5 seconds.
