Budget (including currency): £1000 - £1500 (Lower end is preferable)

Country: UK

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Mainly for gaming and streaming (would love to play baldur's gate 3 without any lag).

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): I've got all peripherals that I need, but in the future I would like to add 2nd monitor 144Hz (currently have some old LG 60Hz), also I am planning on adding CD RW/DVD drive.

The build: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/scVFH2

I went with 2 SSDs because I'd prefer having OS and basic stuff on seperate drive and then all the games on other one. Build itself is in very early stage and it is more of a general idea of what I am thinking, probably there are better options.
Mostly I am not sure about the motherboard, not even because of the warning from pcparpicker but because I often plug a lot of USBs to my computers and it is a pain when I have to swap them around (controllers, external drives, etc.).

Games are huge i would suggest getting a bigger drive for you games.
And you might even do with 500GB for the OS and your apps.

And if the USB devices dont need much bandwidth or its just the 1 USB HDD why not get a good USB3 hub?! 😉

Also that combo of that cooler, case and CPU might make it run very hot.
Either get a case with more airflow and/or a better (bigger heatsink) CPU cooler, is what i would suggest.

When i ask for more specs, don't expect me to know the answer!

Welcome to the forum!

I'm on mobile so can't do a deep dive, but off the top I'd change:

  • Swap the 5800x for a 5700x. Highly doubt you'd notice any performance difference.
  • Swap the cooler for a D15; they're only a few pound more.
  • I'd get an NVME boot drive and a SATA drive for games and such if that's the route you're taking. Or both NVME. The cost difference is usually next to nothing.
  • I wouldn't get an MSI motherboard, but each to their own.
  • Grab a better PSU, using the LTT tier list and choosing from the top 2 categories.
  • I'd get cheaper storage if possible. Samsung drives are generally a little more expensive than other options and you won't really notice the difference.
  • You can get a 3060Ti for a small fraction more than the 3060. Use some of the money saved and do that.
