I am running a Cisco Linksys E4200 (V1) as my main router with a 2.5-inch 1TB external hard drive as a network drive to be paired with Windows 11 File History. I looking for recommendation on a network NSA system (preferably one that is not over ~100 dollars) that I can connect to my ethernet switch and to be paired with a UniFi 6 Pro or Long-Range router. I would like to be able to map the NSA in Windows 11 and share files through the  UniFi Wireless Router -> Ethernet -> Switch -> Ethernet -> NSA or Laptop -> Wifi  -> UniFi Wireless Router -> Wifi -> NSA.

If you've been fine with hanging a USB hard drive off your router, you'll be floored by an ex-office PC with a couple high capacity hard drives.

(And it's "NAS", Network Attached Storage, not "NSA". That's the National Security Agency.)

damnit!  Spoilsport, I was gonna come here and suggest some high-crimes to get the NSA's attention!

Anyways....  Needful is right, using an old PC will do fine, if you have one.  You won't really find much in the way of NAS Enclosures for 100$, they're usually more than that.

You'll find some older, low end Synology and QNAP boxes that only hold a drive or two. At that end of the market an off lease corporate desktop is a much better value.

I'm sorry but I'm still using my Dell OPX 3020 to game on with my wonderful GTX 1050TI and 4 core processor. No way am I going to turn that into a storage server. But I managed to find a one bay Synology for 99 dollars. So, I'll go buy a Unifi 6 Pro and then store it inside a faraday cage so I do not catch Covid-19 from Wifi.

So get a second one. There are plenty on eBay for $50-100 shipped.

Not bad. Don’t expect it to be a Plex monster, but as a simple file bucket those are great. (Just remember you have no redundancy, and RAID is not a backup anyway.)

… what.

WiFi carries computer viruses, not people viruses.

If you’re afraid of the nonexistent health effects of WiFi, why are you buying an access point?
