Budget: $1600 USD

Country: US

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Rust, Newer cod titles, Minecraft, Apex, Blender

Other details  here is my list of parts: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/M2nfVw

I will be upgrading from a pre-built (I will likely sell to go towards my budget) with an rtx 3060, 5600g, 16 gigs ram.

I have an AW2518HF monitor and would like to consistently play games at 240 fps (visuals don't necessarily matter to me in competitive games)

Easier for you to make an existing PC list and then one you plan to upgrade.

Is your current right a 5600G? A mere upgrade might be enough, depending if things like motherboard are good enough.

Depending on how much you use Blender, it might be worth switching to an RTX 3080 12gb. Blender usually does better on AMD, but for everything else you use the PC the 6800 XT will perform similar. Here is a 3080 12gb with a better cooler, if low noise matters to you. The 6800 XT already has a good cooler.

No, it doesn't look good.

You can do better than a Cooler Master Hyper 212 .. Scythe Fuma 2 Rev B for example is better and more silent .. see : https://pcpartpicker.com/product/D3Gbt6/scythe-fuma-2-revb-3944-cfm-cpu-cooler-scfm-2100

You can also do better than that motherboard, should you decide to upgrade in the future to a much more powerful cpu.

That board's only feature is that it's ATX ... everything else is sucky. So-So VRM, crappy video outputs (dvi and hdmi), old ALC887 audio, gigabit lan

If you don't mind mATX ... the board I currently have in my system Gigabyte B550M Aorus Pro-P is 110$ : https://pcpartpicker.com/product/2Bwkcf/gigabyte-b550m-aorus-pro-p-micro-atx-am4-motherboard-b550m-aorus-pro-p
has 2.5g ethernet, more usb ports on the back, ALC1200 audio with digital outputs, better pci-e layout (1x16 + 1x4 + x1 vs x16 + x2 + 3x1), better vrm etc etc

MSI B550M PRO-VDH WIFI is also a great deal at $120  https://pcpartpicker.com/product/PDsnTW/msi-b550m-pro-vdh-wifi-micro-atx-am4-motherboard-b550m-pro-vdh-wifi

You don't get ALC1200 audio, but ALC892 is not bad,  but you do get wireless and you also get that fancy usb 10g front panel header and the board can handle even high power Am4 processors just fine.

and if you want atx  there's an gigabyte x570 aorus elite at 130$ (20$ discount code) https://pcpartpicker.com/product/nHxbt6/gigabyte-x570-aorus-elite-atx-am4-motherboard-x570-aorus-elite

The SSDs are not good. P2 uses QLC memory if my memory is correct, which means low endurance, slow writes.

Just get a single 1 TB drive  (Samsung 980 , WD SN570 etc), leave the 2nd M.2 for later and get a 3-4 TB mechanical drive for storing games you don't play as often or which don't benefit from SSD.

what else ... memory is meh.. I'd rather pay 1-2$ more to get some brand name,  Crucial , Corsair, whatever.

Power supply ... you could do better there.  Would rather have the system in a cardboard box for a month until next paycheck because I've spent the case money on power supply and motherboard.... a power supply will last you 10+ years.

I mean, I don't really see anything superwrong with it (aside from the PSU, that is mediocre at best, I highly doubt it would be able to handle a 3080), but I also don't see much of a reason to do this upgrade. At most I'd just be getting a 5600, GPU upgrade, and probably a PSU upgrade, reusing everything else from that prebuilt.

That said, we're really close to next gen launches, and since your current system is still pretty good, you're better off just waiting for them instead. AM5 will be announced next week, Raptor Lake won't be too far behind, and the RX 7000 series is rumored to launch late October/early November (the RTX 40 series is still very up in the air for when it will launch though if you're dead set on a Nvidia card). Even if you don't want to go next gen, last gen parts should drop quite a bit in price, so you will likely be able to get a 5600 for closer to $100 than to the ~$200 it's currently going for it.

That shouldn't work like that...

I have never heard of a motherboard that only supports Ryzen CPU's with build in graphics.

Either there's a misunderstanding in what you have or you've got some lab prototype.

To my knowledge it's just a different chipset board, not that it doesn't support non G CPU's. That being said, whether HP can be bothered to update bios to support any newer chips is a totally different question, but on paper it shouldn't have an issue.

Need a motherboard geek in here

Is it really that much of a difference to go from a 700w psu to a 750w one though?

B550A is just a renamed B450 chipset - back then AMD delayed B550 and HP and other OEMs wanted a refresh for "back to school" sales and other marketing crap and convinced AMD to release a chipset called B550A that's just B450 renamed.

HP unfortunately often refuses or just never bothers to update the bioses to support more processors. My guess is that they restrict to just those 3 processors because they have integrated graphics, and they didn't want to deal with warranty and support questions about why the video outputs on motherboard don't work anymore.

It's possible 5600x would simply work on it, as any other 65w TDP processor - I wouldn't try to install a 5800x or something with higher TDP though.

If that's truly the motherboard (Erica8 , SSID 89D8 ) then this is the only bios available so no luck, probably only thos 3 cpus will be supported: https://support.hp.com/gb-en/drivers/selfservice/victus-by-hp-15l-gaming-desktop-pc-tg02-0000a/2101006743

You can try other cpus, worst case scenario it just won't boot, but it's unlikely you'll damage anything.
